Are you well prepared for a tornado?

Those were just down the road from me. About 5 miles away. We had hail and a lot of rain but if it were not for the radio I would not have known the storms were bad enough to destroy a house and the other buildings. I don't think we had any damage except for a bit of erosion on the lane...

Wow...I just saw on the news it ripped apart a few places in Dexter, MI.....hope all is well.
Timely post!!

I saw that on the news about ten minutes ago, very glad nobody was injured or killed.

The folks in Dexter had plenty of warning through the alert system and there is a good sized school across the main road from where most of the damage occurred where they could have taken shelter. I just heard on the news that another area just North of Dexter was damaged too, but not as badly. It does surprise me that no one was apparently hurt. Storms of that sort are fairly rare in this area and it does not seem to me that people take the warnings seriously.

Thanks for reminding me of something I forgot to post here, my wife works for Michigan State University and the college has what is termed "MSU ALERT" and when you sign up, their office of emergency services will text you alerts and warnings of severe weather conditions and other important news on your mobile. The most recent alert sent was about a week ago, there was an armed robbery on campus and when the MSU police were notified, they immediately sent out text messages to all subscribers of the system so they would be aware of the crime.

I don't know if such an alert system exists elsewhere but to me it is a very practical method of warning a large number of people.

Don't know if it's everywhere, but we have a system called "Nixle" for emergency notification via text. Nixle
