I was wondering if I was missing a plastic trim piece on the "H" pattern gear shift and the the Hi/lo/Reverse on my JD 2140 with power syncro? See photos below, any help appreciated.

I'm not sure... the 40 series that I've looked at have the transmission controls on the floor; adjacent to the steering/instrument column.

You must have one of those European models! :D

The range selector section looks like it may have had a pattern trim at one time.. Gotta believe that it would not really improve the operation of the tractor, though.

Just cosmetic.

Thanks I think that's what I'm after.

Yep New Zealand got the Euro models :)

The reason I ask if it was missing the trim is because the Hi/low power syncro is operated on the main gear lever by moving the gear lever to the left or right in a gear. A lot of the time if your were lets say 2nd gear in High ratio with the shift in "Hi" and you were to shift into 3rd gear its hard to tell if its going to go into 3 Hi or Low unless you manually move the gear shift into Hi or Lo before lifting off the clutch
So I thought maybe its missing plastic trim on the H pattern.

JD SGB(cab)utility tractors built for North American sales utilize the same part with the same part #. That's how I found the European parts schematic. Go to 2355 parts cat, then go to parts index, click on Part Number Search and enter part # L38386 and a very similar photo will pop up.

Update: L38386 is no longer available
According to John Deere p/n L59838 can be used in its place and be modified to fit

That's makes perfect sense. If the pattern block is there - you can see immediately if you're in High or Low - no guessing or having to "double" shift to be certain!
