They used the 2.7. the 3.3/3.2 and the 3.5 in the intrepid. They are an engine with the timing chain and gears and water pump in the 2.7, you really want to keep the oil clean, and if you put a bar to the chain case and there is any tapping or slapping sound do not buy it. Look up the parts needed and the prices. Leaking water pump goes into the oil.
The 3.2/3.3 and the 3.5 have timing belts, and the water pumps in one does not fit them all.
If you do your own maintenance the diff has it's own case and they leak and most places do not check that.
The power train is not great but if you do the maintenance it will last. The 2.7 is not a good engine at all.
You have to keep the coolant fresh.
I have done a few head gaskets for leaking externally in the 3.3. out the back on the right head.
