Dodge Intrepid - First car, what do you think?

Well, already have a problem...

As soon as I started driving the car it seemed to bottom out. Even at small bumps. I looked under the car today, and I saw that the "air dam" under the bumper seemed to be hanging down. I looked closer and noticed the car was also leaking (looks like oil)...You will see some damage to the bumper, that was from the previous owner, not me.

Hope the leak is nothing major.........

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Just drive it for a while and don't worry about it...Keep an eye on the fluids daily though..Could just be a minor drip..Some cars do that forever..

Car does look nice...You did well on that I'd say.

Remove the plastic air dam, clean the area real well and check your fluid levels. Some of those older cars had the oil filter in a bad spot causing oil to leak on other parts during removal. Check for leaks in a few miles and trace it to its source. My first car leaked oil so bad I added a quart every 800-1000 miles, I never changed the oil figuring every 5k miles it had all fresh oil anyways...

I'm taking the car to a nearby mechanic tomorrow to see what he says about the leak...

Thanks again for all the comments. It appears that I did well, even if it has a problem or two...:)

Yes you did. You cant expect a perfect car @ $1600. So a few minor issues is to be expected at that price.

Ocassionally when selling stuff on c-list, like used implements, or used cars, or whatever: Never fails I always get someone come out to look at stuff and they just pick it appart. Like on used implements they point out a little scraped paint, or some rust here, or a ding there, etc. Those people irk me. I just tell them that "it is what it is, if you want a new one, spend the money and buy a new one":confused2:

Not saying you are like that though, because I know your not. Just saying, you got a ~10 year old car for a good price. But it isnt going to be perfect, and if you keep it long enough, other stuff will need repaired as well. Part of owning/maintaining a vehichle:thumbsup:

I'd just take the air dam off also. You could get some more of those push pins and put it back on, but it looks in bad shape. I wouldn't feel the need to take it to a mechanic right away, just a very small oil leak over a long period of time looks a lot worse than it really is. Like someone else said, just keep an eye on the fluids and make sure the leak isn't bad.
