Ain't it great to have a Yanmar

Cal, I have had 2 sailboats with Yanmar engines, and have delivered a couple more down the coast to Mexico with Yanmars as well. Great with fuel as well. Right now I have an Isuzu in the current boat, and 4 cyl, 60 hp, 1/3 gal per hour at 6.5 knots. Not bad for a 16 ton boat.

My YM169D I had was very fuel efficient, I hardly ever had to fuel it up. Now I have a 61 hp Deere 317 skid steer, it has a 16 gallon tank. I ran it through 10 gallons in 12 hours of light use. It seems like i am using more fuel now, probably because i am using the 317 more since i finally have a bucket. I still miss the Yanmar though. :( ;)

Yup, Diesels are very efficient which is why big trucks are all Diesels and yet most people drive gas powered cars. What's up with that?

Can you say EPA ? My son went to Honduras last year on a mission trip. He said he saw small diesel cars & trucks every where

Yup everywhere but here. I know a guy who went to Brazil and saw the basically same Ford and Gm car and pickup models over there with diesels in them we buy with only gas engines over here.

Makes no sense and yes EPA definitely is the biggest if not only reason imo. I would have a small pickup with a diesel in a heartbeat not the old Isuzu pup types but the real modern diesels.

When I did my apprenticeship with a diesel mechanic the guy who owned the shop was from Peru. All he talked about was diesel, he owned two nissan deisel cars, and a dodge diesel truck. I too would own all diesels if I could, as a matter of fact whenever I can afford too I'm gonna buy a VW diesel. And my YM 2000 sips the fuel!!!!

Jeep has a little deisel engine for the Liberty, but, yep cant be sold here due to EPA regs. So you have to buy one with a gas motor to get 22mpg instead of the deisel that gets 30+ im sure.

The other thing you can still buy the old school toyota Hilux pickups in other contries i think and in deisel.

My friend went to mexico a few years ago to what he thought was a son of a Drug or mafia type guy. They were in "construction" but the wedding was at one of those homes in the Moutains, they has tahoes sent to the air port to get them and they all had "drivers" in white tahoes or black tahoes. I think the drivers where basically body gaurds as well. My buddy is like 6'3" and blonde, he stuck out like a sore thumb there.

Anyway my point is other countries still have old school cars we havent seen here in 20+ years yet they still make um in other countries, which i guess is why the other parts of the world can afford cars as they dont chang up like every 3 yrs like we do now. Ok the point again. He said on the dealer lots he saw "old body" nissan Sentras the kind like from 1992 and they were brand new cars. After all wasnt it in the 90s the last of the "old body" beetles rolled off VW's line?

Ive got to agree, my ym1500 uses about 3 & a half inches of fuel disking for 4 hours. Its a great little tractor.

Oh i also meant to mention my fuel usage on my ym2000. Does not seem to be as good as some of you all, but i really dont Finish mow much for extended periods like you Cary i guess. It seems i can get about 10 hours out of a tank of fuel maybe a bit more. But almost all the work i do is either pulling a heavy disk just flat out pulling it or bushhogging stuff that seems like its always knee deep to waist deep. Tractor is always working hard!

But when the wife mowes the few acres of grass at most around the house at the farm property she uses as much or more gas than i do in the MTD mower. And im bushhogging triple the acerage usually and there is no way the mtd could begin to cut what the bushhog is cutting.

I know this is a bit off topic but while in Iraq I saw Chevy LUV pickups everywhere and toyota pick ups with dielsel engines. The LUV's were pretty awesome and I would've loved to have one of them back home.
