Trailer brakes locking when brake pedal applied.

Just out of curiosity, did you happen to look and see if your truck brake lights come on, when you manually activate the controller..?? For some reason at this particular moment, my mind is telling me that if the brake/turn is powering up the brakes, then the trailer brakes should power up the brake lights, backfeeding.

Could be I'm just high from breathing in all these ammonia fumes, while cleaning horse stalls this morning.

Did you install the truck plug..?? Factory..?? Where you bought the trailer.?? And how many pin..??

Trailer connector is a factory 7 pin RV plug with a factory brake controller. The brake lights do come on when you press the manual brake control lever. The funny thing about it is the nephews 08 F250 works perfectly without any problems.

The Ford works correctly with the gain set at 1.5-2.0. The dodge will leave black marks behind the trailer tires with the gain set at 0.0

Either the brake controller is wired incorrectly or two of the wires are shorting together.

It will be interesting to see what is causing the problem, since everything is factory. Keep us posted..!!

Dealer performed a software update to the ITCM per Chrysler due to a sensitivity issue.

Seems to be working for now, but will let you guys know if anything changes.

Odd but makes sense that a new truck wouldn't be wired wrong or have chafed wires.

Glad it was a easy fix. If it works half as good as the ones I have used in my Ford and other you will never go back to a aftermarket one.

From some of my cruising on Cummins and Dodge forums I got the hint that some of the older 2500-3500 (pre2010) had a way to set the EVIC for either light ( under 8000) or heavy towing. I think the program was thinking it should of been a 10000 lb trailer instead of 2000 so I couldn't set the gain low enough. My test after getting back from the dealer let my set the gain at 1.5 for a 1700 empty trailer. I hope it keeps working otherwise they will get it back to fix right.

Somebody towing a camper that weights 5-6000 would probably never see the issue I was having.

That does not make sense. I tow everything from 1,200# empty car haul trailer to my uncles boat at 25,000#. Sometimes in the same day like last fall. I do this all with my 06 F-350 SRW 4x4 Powerstroke with the Ford Built In Integrated Brake Controller.. I would not be happy if I had to go the dealer to get it flashed for a heavy or light trialer.

The heavy or light setting is supposedly in the user setup portion of the Electronic Vehicle Information Center on the Pre-2010 Dodge pickups. My 2011 1500 doesn't have it.
