How would welding the bolt head be less effective? It is the bolts backing off, if there was a couple of tacs on the bolt head this would stop the bolt from backing off. The main problem. Welding the bracket on seems overkill, even if it was one plane.

Welding the parts together keeps them immobile. Tacking the bolt heads does nothing if the nut isn't also secured. Tacking the nut to the bolt would keep the bolt from loosening, but not stretching, which is a part of the problem. The mobility of the various parts is still not addressed. The original hardware simply cannot provide sufficient clamp load to immobilize the parts. Welding the pieces together is not overkill, but the best solution.

Too bad the OPs last activity on the forum was three years ago, would be interesting to hear if welding the parts transferred a stress load somewhere else that wasn't designed for it and failed.

I doubt it. The OP was neither the first nor the last to have these symptoms.

No. It doesn't cause any problems/stress loades elsewere.
I welded mine for the same reason years ago.
It solved the problem.
