Another DK40SE price check

I was just reading a post involving you. I thought your "financial adviser" told you no. Maybe I did not read far enough into it. What was the price on the DK35se?

Well we went back, I brought her this time. ( she likes tractors too) to get her to sit on the tractors, She had trouble getting up on the DK40se from the ground. She has had a lot of back surgery's and has limited range of motion. She could do it. but was not comfortable getting on and off, She had no trouble with the DK35se. I guess those few inches made a difference to her. plus the DK35se was $19300. We both liked the DK35se Cab model, but just could not justify $6200 more for the cab. Not that we could not have financed it, but it just didn't make sense. sure was a nice cab though One other thing was the implements like the forks I already have, while they would have worked on thee DK40se, they would have been underated bad at 1800 lbs and the loader at 2700. So new forks needed. and the spare bucket I have is kinda small for a DK40se. I really have to rethink some things already with the DK35se.

It is more tractor than what you had. This is me and my wife's first tractor. At this time we have no vehicle payments and no kids. I have convinced her this is the time do and get it over with. I would like to not have to worry about another tractor for a long time that is why I am looking at the DK40SE. It is definately more than what we need right now but I don't want to be wishing for a bigger tractor in the future.

If it was me and I was in Maine, I would be getting a cab. We're not getting any younger and doesn't it get sort of cold up there?

You get use to it. The old blood thickens. What really stinks is when out of the blue you go from single digit temps right to 80 degrees like what happened here last week. Everyone up here didn;t know what to do. We couldn't find our summer clothes since we had not even thought about getting them out for another month.

A cab would be nice but not in the budget and I would be afraid I would break it the first time in the woods.

Just turned over 191 hours today. May will be 2 yrs! I love my Dk40SE HST.

Mowed for the first time today. A good friend ordered a '12 DK40SE HST, KL401, and a 2485 hoe. Picks it up Friday. Before he added the hoe, price quoted was $21,500 w/ R4 tires (not loaded). If the prices in Maine track a couple thousand more, then the $23K might not be a bad deal at all? If you really like the dealer then work your best deal and enjoy your new tractor.

I'm looking to add a hydraulic top link to make life a little easier and then a 3rd function valve for hyd. pwr up front for a future grapple.

Built my own set of pallet forks and its amazing what you can do with them! I did add expanded metal to my grill guard....this is highly recommended if you deal with brush at all. It will prevent a broken lower grill bonnet (yes, I busted mine last summer)!

You wont regret getting the DK 40.

I will difinately work with this dealer. He seems knowledgable and it is a family owned business that has been around for a while. Besides a JD and Kubota dealer in my area he is the only one left. I am absolutely not interested in JD or Kubota but I can't let him know that. Side note, I quickly looked at a L3940 yesterday and laughed at the flimsy looking 3pt hitch. I also noticed the step and rear fender seemed very cheap when I stepped up onto the tractor the entire fender moved considerably. (FYI I am not a fat guy)

I am still a little ignorant about what I need for hydrolic setups. The DK comes with a additional rear remote. Should a purchase a second remote? What is a hydrolic top link? What will I need for hydrolics for a future purchas of a grapple?

One thing I would ask about is a 3rd function for the Front end. grapples, and snow plow actuators for example can be used. Of course you could run a hose from the rear remotes, but then you would have to move your hand from the FEL joy stick to the rear remotes control. A 3rd function would put the control switch on the joy stick. Mine I can control with my thumbe when useing the grapple.

The 2nd remote will be a bout 450 installed (at least that is what they quoted me). A hydraulic top link is a replacement with a hydraulic cylinder of the jack screw that comes with the tractor. This allows you to make adjustment on the top link on the fly from the seat of the angle of implements like a box blade for example without getting on and off the tractor multiple times to set the angle and try it and reset it etc. You can run the grapple off of the rear remote if you like, and some guys do just that. You will need 2 long hoses from rear to front to hook to your grapple. Some guys get along with it ok, and some don't like it. You would have to drop your hand down from the loader control to the remote to open the grapple jaws, then back to the loader control, to position it on the object then back to the remote to close the jaws. Another way is to add a true 3rd function electric over hydraulic control valve with a control as a rocker switch on the loader control handle. That way your hand never leaves the loader control. This is hooked up from the power beyond port on your loader control, and the valve is placed somewhere on the tractor and is controlled by the electric switch hookup mentioned previously. The WR Long control kit is about 750 dollars. This leaves your remote free for something else. The second remote can be used for a complete top-n-tilt setup for a rear blade or box blade to allow not only the top link replacement by hydraulic cylinder but also the side link (right side screw adjuster) is also replaced with a hydraulic cylinder. This allows you to adjust the angle of the blade on the fly from the seat. This would be useful when cutting a ditch for example. Some guys have even a 3rd remote for the 3rd axis angle of a blade. A photo would go a long way here in explaining this, but I don't have one. Perhaps MtViewRanch would be able to help here. So I hope all of these words drew a picture in your mind of what I meant

Also a set of winter gear that will have you comfy sitting out in a snow bank in -40 all day is only a few hundred bucks....
I feel worse for the guys down south, there's no $300 solution being in the heat and humidity all day...:confused2:

As for the tractor, my only real complaint is I'd like to have wider front tires for working in wet areas, the Ag fronts are a bit narrow. If you've got hills, I'd recommend getting the rear tires loaded and set out to the widest.
To rectify the narrow front tire issue, you could ask about getting the Ind. fronts and the Ag rears. The Ags and Inds are the same diameters so you can run a mismatch. My narrow Ags do bite very hard though so I never worry about pointing the tractor down a hill that's grassy or has my clay soil exposed. Maybe new Ind tires would be OK too but at some point they would slip before the Ags would.
