Rest in Peace
There's been many changes in Texas over the years. I can remember when the annual state safety inspection sticker cost $2. And as long as I can remember, Texas uses 2 license plates; one on the rear and one on the front. Many years ago, you got new metal plates each year. And also, many years ago, all the plates expired at the same time, and all the state safety inspection stickers expired at the same time. One was April 1 and the other April 15, but I've forgotten which was which. There used to be long lines the last day or two before they expired. And then Texas went to just issuing a little sticker to put on your rear license plate when you renewed the registration, instead of new plates, and the registrations expired at different times, as do the state safety inspection stickers. But that changed, too, because they said people were stealing those little stickers.
And the latest changes took place in September of last year (2011). So now, they are supposed to issue new metal plates when yours are 7 years old (they don't always do it, though, but they're supposed to:laughing
. Now the State Safety Inspection sticker goes on the inside lower left corner of your windshield and the registration sticker just above it.
We have a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup and a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria. It cost me $64.25 to renew the registration on each of them last month
The Crown Vic also got a new state safety inspection sticker last month, but the Ranger won't get a new one until October. Each one costs $39.75.
And I have a little single axle utility trailer, 2000 pound GVW, and annual registration cost me $57.50 this year (and Texas still uses a little sticker to put on the license plate for trailers).
