Well Drilling - North Texas

I'm in southern Wise county and got quotes for a well almost 3 years ago for a 4" cased well. The average I was given was around $21-24 per ft. I doubt the underground here is all to different in Prosper, maybe so, but if you are going 6" or more, your quotes don't sound like "gouging". As Jinman said, most the drillers said in this part of N Texas 400' is a deep one.

My brother has a well that is 435' (4") and runs 3 houses with sprinklers systems easily, they drilled to the Trinity aquifer. They also have a 1000 gal holding tank and use a jet pump from there for supply.

Wow does this thread hit home. I am a chicken farmer in East Texas and started to drill my own wells to save money. You can read more about my story on my website A1 Water Well Drilling and service.

Shane, that's a very attractive website with the perfect amount of info. It tells who you are and what you do. I don't know if you did it or had someone else do it, but it is the kind of site that will draw in business.

I have lots of relatives (living and deceased) in the Winnsboro, Leesburg, Scroggins area. Bethel Cemetery is full of Inmans and Sparks who are on my father's side of the family.

Thanks Jinman! I did the website myself....its a work in progress. I know lots of Sparks...I worked for Mertle Sparks when I was in high-school out in Scrogins. Good people!

My grandmother on my father's side was Belle Zora Sparks before she married. It sounds like you may have worked for my great-aunt, Myrtle Sparks. She passed away in Feb. 1993 (gravestone photo attached).

Its a small world Jinman...I was a pallbearer at her funeral!! I also showed some of their Brahman cattle. I have pics of Myrtle posing with me and some of the animals and some trophys at a show. My Dad worked for them when he was in high school at their feed store.

Indeed, it is a small world even in big state like Texas. Here is a picture of one of Myrtle's Brahman Bulls from my Dad's collection. I think my father took this picture in the late '50s. This bull was like a pet to Myrtle and she was the only one who could really handle it. Earnest and Myrtle were two of my relatives I didn't know really well, but heard my dad talk of them often.

400' is insanely deep for a Texas water well... with how high the water table runs around here, I normally see 100-200 feet being enough. Might be different out in West Texas, though. Of course, with a deep water well, you might strike oil too!

I'm in N. TX (Denton to be exact) and my pump sits at 425'. It could actually stand to be 50' deeper. My neighbors all sit at a similar depth.

Up by Amarillo 400' is not uncommon. A little farther south here in Lubbock, 200' is common.
