I have a bolens ht20 with fel that works great. I just hooked up my brantly backhoe and the problems started. At first I piped it up in series with the fel spool first in line. It worked great for about 45 min. Then all of the hydraulic functions got real slow and weak then they quit working all together, fel and the hoe. I unhooked the hoe and no change. I walked away until it all cooled down then they started working again. Now the back hoe is disconnected and the fel runs good till the fluid warms up and then it starts to slow down again. Could I have damaged the fel spool valve by turning the return side into the pressure for the hoe.

That does not sound quite right, I am sure some of the other more knowledgeable members will respond soon. From what I know all returns go to the sump.

The previous owner said that he ran both units off of the one pump but I can not get a hold of him any more. How else could I plumb it so they are live at the same time.

There is a chance that by connecting the BH as you said, you may have put some back pressure on the FEL valve, and caused some damage.

The tank/return port should never be used to feed another valve downstream unless it is spec-ed at high pressure. Most tank/returns will have a back pressure of around 300 to 500 psi.

You should have connected the BH to a PB outlet on the FEL if it had one.

You need to use a hyd gage and determine the pressure on the hyd system.

What is a pb outlet?

PB means power beyond, in which you feed another valve with pump fluid flowing through the first valve, and another valve , etc.

In an open center hyd circuit, all fluid not used by a cyl or hyd motor is passed on to the next valve. PB is designed for high pressure flow.

Some valves have the PB port, and when you want to use it to add multiple valves, you add an adapter or hex plug and make the valve into a PB valve.

A loader valve with 7 hoses is using the PB port.

If your FEL valve does not have PB capability, and you want to add valves. It is best to purchase a new loader valve with PB and use your old valve for whatever.

The previous owner had a plumbing buisness for many years and dug all of his ditches with this set up. Im going to look to see if the backhoe spool has a pb port. If it does could I go through it first.

If your loader valve has PB capability, use the adapter and feed the BH directly.

The tank hose from the BH should go to tank.

If your BH has PB, then it would have three hoses, or the port is there, but not used.

If you are going to leave the BH on, and it has PB, then you can run the pump outlet to the BH IN port.

The PB from the BH would then go to the FEL IN port.

The return /tank hose would go to the 3pt.

You really should have PB going into the 3pt .

I just checked and neither spool has a pb port. Should I buy a new fel spool with pb?
