I bought a 15 gallon spray electric spray rig from Harbor Freight for $99.00 and a Chicago Electric jump start power pack from HF for $39 with a coupon and today the Mrs. and I put both in the pack of our pick up filled with weed, grass and brush killer and drove the farm...along fence lines , around trees, along the edges of the road and wherever we saw that invasive privet.....

Now that was great ....it took about 2 hrs. for what used to be a 2 day job with our little pump up sprayers..If you have much land at all..this would be worth you looking into...:)

It looks as if I'll be buying me something like that because the poison oak/ivy has almost taken over in spots. I plowed up a spot about 50' by 100' near the side of the road and planted some grass in hopes of choking it out instead of constantly spraying. This area had 1 large oak tree and lots of other small brush until the tornado last April took out the large oak. I have much larger spots left to go and tired of pumping !!!.

Steave...I bought the sprayer and power pack so I could use it from my truck, ATV or tractor and it sure does save a lot of time and works like a charm...I got the Brush Killer which is 41% Glosphate ( not sure of the spelling but what kills the brush , grass and weeds ) from Home Depot on line...It was 1/2 the price of Roundup...$39 for 2 & 1/2 gallons of concentrate and we used it last year and it worked great. It is called " Compare and Save " but our local HD store did not have it so we got it from their on line site with free shipping...It guarantees a 1 yr. kill and I can attest to that.

Could you not just get a 12V power cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter and run it off of the trucks electrical system?? Depending on how much current the pump motor draws, the tractor and/or atv may also have enough power to run it? Just a thought anyway.

Yes...on the tractor and ATV I use the cigarette lighter but I don't have on in the truck so I bought that power supply for $39 from HF ...I can use it for jump starting and other things as well..whereas a cigarette lighter in the truck would not have any use other than this...but good point ...you could also just use the alligator clips onto the vehicles battery..that would work too.

That's what I do with mine and the riding lawn mower. I put the 15 gal. sprayer in a pull behind trailer and ran a wire to the battery terminals and ran the hand wand up so I can spot spray and never leave the seat!

You're spray set up sounds good. A more permanant solution is to pull it out of the ground with your tractor or four wheeler. I used to use Round Up which would knock it back for a year so, then it would come back. Pull it out and burn it and it's gone for ever. Those herbicides can get expensive.

i really get a lot use out of my 15 gallon spot sprayer from Northern Equipment - for spraying fence i purchased an 18" spray handle - it's less of a reach than the handle that came with it.

I got a 14 gallon sprayer at Northern Tool maybe 6 or 7 years ago. It has alligator clips for power - I put the tank in the little truck bed of our Kawasaki Mule and put the alligator clips right on the batter. Works great. I drive around myself and spray glyphosate all over the place. I also got a boom to hook up and it works great too for killing everything on a section of pasture.

The tank is just the right size for spot spraying, but too small really for big areas. I sprayed 2-4D a couple weeks ago over large areas and had to fill up the tank probably 20 times. But I do that very seldom and do the spot spraying all the time.

I actually bought a second tank not too long after the first one figuring to spray insecticides only out of that one, but I have never used it.

I second that technique. TSC had the 15 gal with pump and wiring for $85.
Lawn tractor had a power outlet in dash but the wire from the sprayer behind would be getting kicked and pulled at that point by operator boots, so I put another female plug at the back of the tractor, out of the way and hard wired it to battery.
Pump has a 5 amp mini fuse built in line so it doesn't draw much. Sprayed along pasture fence and riding ring in 2 hours; used to take 2 days with hand pump. Wife was so happy, since she does the spraying there, she baked a cake..:D

Glyphosate is the chemical found in roundup. It is the general active ingredient in most herbicides that kill soft tissue or herbaceous plants. We use glyphosate at a 30% solution for cut stump treatments and it works very well. at 41% you are spraying straight concentrate(which is actually 42% from the manufacturer) so be careful with that stuff. also if you water it down it will make roundup(typically from 2 to 4% will kill weeds with ease) sounds like you got yourself a nice little spray rig and your going to save a ton of time and headaches with managing your weed and brush problem. as mentioned already I also have goats. they eat anything, and they are amusing to watch.

Brin - I appreciate the information about your set up, good idea on the battery pack. I have a lot to learn about different kind of chemicals just haven't kept up with them over the years. I've always done it the hard way, pulling, tugging, digging, etc. but gave me a good excuse to use my tractor more. Tractoring is still enjoyable but the getting on and off not so much.

Well it is getting expensive to read these posts..

I had been thinking about trying a power sprayer - the hand pump ones I am just sick of.. So I made an impulse purchase and bought this HarborFreight one using today's 25% off coupon - so it was like ~$75

12 Volt Sprayer - 12 Volt, 15 Gallon Tank Garden Sprayer

Dunno if its junk or not but for the price I figured it was worth trying..

How well does the HF power pack hold a charge? Is it better than buying a deep discharge battery like a marine battery?

I have only use the HF power pack once for 2 hrs. of spraying and it did just fine...I left it on the whole time and had all the power I needed. Then when I finished I followed the directions and just plugged the power pack in the garage elect. outlet and that is where it sits, plugged in until the next time...I am happy with it and it can be used for other power needs and jump starting as well.

I noticed the first time my wife used the sprayer that there is a potentiential
expensive repair, by the lack of any stress relief on the hose between the pump and the hand nozzle.
The pump is half the cost of the entire sprayer according to the booklet that came with it so I made a little stress relief out of available junk.
Didn't want to drill the tank so the little leveling board is just held on
with a 1" x 4" piece of Velcro swiped from her sewing cabinet. I can pick the empty sprayer up by the hose without the Velcro pulling loose, so we will see if it holds in actual use.

Have any of you ever sprayed Remedy along the fencelines? It is the RoundUp opposite for killing off trees yet leaving the grass unharmed. I use it on small poplars and willows, works great. The leaves just shrivel up and the tree dies off.

We have used the Northern 16 gal sprayer for years. We put it in the back of the Polaris Ranger. We did hook it up to the Battery on th Ranger..... The charging system is a little on the weak side so I put a Marine battery with iot in the back of the Ranger.... No more problems..... I'll be spraying this next week...
