GC 2400 drive over deck

I got tired of dragging the deck under the tractor, so I did it just to see what would happen.

The pulley sheilds appear pretty strong, and I figured .......if I bend them, I'll just get stronger ones made up.

I put a piece of split firewood on each side of the deck, at the rear, where each tire would hit. Put another piece of firewood in front of the deck, just in front of the roller to keep the deck from moving.

Put it in 4WD, and drove over the deck very slowly.

No damage.......pulley shields never flexed at all:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I drive across mine but I extend the BH out as far as it can go to lighten the front end and use the FEL to raise the front end to put the wheels on to the deck. And use nothing else. Just make sure the attach pins are not out because it will bend the bracket. The reason the covers didn't flex is because they are very close to the grease fittings on the spindles. Pull off the covers and see if they are are marked from them.

Good info, thanks for sharing. Next time I grease it I'll check for dimples.

I left my pins in the 'out' position. My turf tires cleared them, but just barely. next time I will put then 'in'

Don it sounds like you put the nuts back on the guards after you grease the spindles. I have not used them for about the last 600 hrs. Bend the metal a little where the bolts come through in to give some tension so the front latch holds the guard on. It makes cleaning the chaff from under the guard and greasing easier. Plus when I use the FEL with hooks welded on and a chain to lift the deck to clean under the deck and sharpen the blades I remove the left guard and rotate the PTO put the universal joint under the guard and put the guard back on. It keeps the PTO from falling apart.

I typically drive over the deck, but I've never had the guts to try it with a front end loader attached.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I just finished pulling my deck under by hand yesterday but will try this the next time. I wonder if you can remove it the same way?

I do it both ways. I find it easier to take off then on. I use the FEL to lift the front wheels off the ground and slide the bucket across the ground as i back up. You can get across the deck a long way with out putting weight on the deck.

I decided to keep my Husqvarna garden tractor for a few more years-even bought a 3 bin bagger yesterday. One of my concerns was the installing and removal of the deck on the GC. The 60" is considerably heavier than my 48" and the 48" can be a pain to remove and install. If something bad happens to my Husqvarna I will get the GC deck and impliment this mod.

I thought about leaving the nuts off( for the ease of cleaning and greasing), but now that I'm going to be driving over the deck, I'll leave them on.
