Water temperature gauge on a B7100

Steve, without a water pump and without a temperature gauge, I was a bit concerned about that myself when I had a B7100. I once talked to a factory service rep about how you'd know if it started to overheat and he said to not worry about it; that you'd know from the whistling sound it would make. That didn't entirely satisfy me, but it at least it never overheated.

I cut out a straight section of the top water hose and installed a short section of copper pipe. I tapped a hole in the side of this pipe for a standard water temperature sensor. As Bird says, it has a stainless steel whistle on the end of the overflow tube, though I've never activated it. Boiling temperature of the fluid under the pressure cap is 260 degrees F.

You cut the top radiator hose and splice this in. Then you can screw in the water sensor tube directly into the body.

This site is great. In just a few minutes I was able to get exactly what I needed.

Bird, you expressed my sintiments exactly. I just don't feel comfortable not knowing what my temperature is when I'm running PTO mounted attachments.

You may well find that this adapter is too long. When I fabricated mine, I made it as short as possible and it still kind of distorts the hose. I made mine from copper plumbing couplers - I don't recall the size.

Just installed a gauge on mine last week using a 34mm coupling I ordered on eBay. Used a 1/8 electric sender unit. Mine runs 220 to 225 while working the PTO hard. This concerns me but the engine shows no signs of overheating. It quickly cools to 180 / 190 when I stop PTO work.I haven't been able to find out if this is a normal ok temp to run.
