Hi out there, I'm ready to change the trans. fluid/filter on my BX23...seems straight forward on my owner's manual....all, except the Transmission strainer, which is recommended to be removed and cleaned....looks like I'll need to remove the left rear tire:confused....any pointers on this.....I'd appreciate anything....also, plan to clean area around the filter and inlet of any dirt/grease before I get started....thanks
Mark

Yes, it's a lot easier to get at with the left rear wheel removed, and a blast from the air hose to get caked dirt/grease outta there is also a good idea.

Didnt have to remove the wheel on my BX to get the strainer out..As was said clean the area around it before you take it out...I just cleaned the strainer with some brake-clean..Let it dry and put it back.

thanks for the info..........so, you can remove the strainer w/o taking the wheel off?....what tool do you recommend??.......a socket wrench??....open end wrench.....this should be done I guess after the oil is drained out totally?.....don't want to sound dumb, but which is the strainer......again the manual is a bit unclear with it's view of that section of the tractor.....thanks

I didn't have to take my tire off, I have turfs...Yeah, wait until the fluid is out...if I remember correctly I used a box wrench..If you look closely, you can tell which bolt looks like it's a "plug'" type thing....I'll take a look at mine...I was just goig to do the very thing you are but the dealer was out of HST filters, so I have to wait..This will be the third change for me.

I'll take a look at mine as to where the strainer bolt is and let you know

I'm no big time wrench, I would tell you to leave it alone if it has already been cleaned at lest once. Why look for trouble? I serviced mine on my BX25 at 50 hours. I figured the junk I found was due to engine break in; and I didn't find that much.

I believe its the ~3/4" bolt at the very bottom of the HST on the left side...Everything around it has lock washers on it...The strainer doesn't.

great.....I'll check it out.......why don't I have filter p/ns in the user manual??...or am I missing this....I know the local Kubota dealer will get me the correct filters, oil, etc., but I'd like to see the p/n to make sure I'm getting the correct item...thanks

I always rely on the dealer for that..They've never messed it up yet...My guess is that one filter fits many tractors, so it's probably tough to mess that up.
