I think I'd stop listening to your brother... No way in heck you'd need anything close to 90 hp to pull a subsoiler.

WIth the subsoiler you attached, a 30 hp tractor would pull that up to the top of the frame in sandy loam soil like in S. Cal. Maybe he wants you to hook up to a 5-7 shank subsoiler and go 4 foot deep. You have to consider the cost of equipment to match your tractor also. If you hooked a 110 HP tractor to that little Amazon for sell unit, you would rip it apart if it hit an obstruction and you would never feel it hit.
A nice B series 2920 Kubota would do what ever you need with 4 or 5 foot tilller. A 6 foot tool bar with middle buster plows would make a good row the width of the tractor tires. YOu would then need something to flatten the tops like a tined harrow and you would be ready for planting. A tiller is going to run you around 3 grand depending on the width you select so allow for that in you budget. I think the tractor can be had for 14-15 grand new but used would also be ok if they are low hours and clean.

Good suggestions so far. But, I'd also look at other brands like Mahindra, Kioti, Bobcat, LS, and MF. All good tractors. For about $15K you can get a new 30 HP Kioti with loader. A lot of tractor for the money with nice features like telescopic 3 PH, and a 4 year warranty. Will do what you want and won't be too big either. Used in these brands will also bring you great value.

A M6040 would be plenty of tractor for you. And a good quality machine! Do you think you need a loader? I would be inclined to buy a smaller tractor using the saved money for a loader.

That subsoiler could be easily pulled by a 15 drawbar hp tractor. They are very easy to pull with one tooth.

Getting a "feel" for what size tractor you need takes some time and research. Talk to a good dealer and see what they recommend. They may recommend something new of course but you can always find the equivalent size and HP in something used. Take your time... u'll figure it out!

Don't forget to check out the L3130, 3430, 3830 tractors from Kubota. The new ones are 3240, 3540, 3940. I think this would be the perfect size for you... especially for working in your veg and fruit fields. They can turn a 6' tiller and with a loader... can do pretty much anything. And easily pull that one shank subsoiler!

Here is another "me too" on stop listening to your brother, he does not know what he is talking about on pulling that subsoiler. Holy cow! a 90 horse tractor to pull a subsoiler?... yeah pull it in two!. check out one of the smaller 25 to 30 horse tractors. Pull that subsoiler with lots of power to spare. A loader is the most useful attachment on a tractor. Opinions are worth what you paid for them, but lots of people are saying the same thing.. get a new tractor advisor..Please!
