Pull the alternator and take it to an electrical shop that tests, repairs, and rebuilds alternators, generators, electrical motors, etc. They can test it and then repair/rebuild if needed. Run, don't walk. Also, get that bad ruined battery out of your equipment before something more major happens.

If you're going to replace the battery anyway, and I certainly agree that you should, then I wouldn't mess with the old one; however, you're right; pop the caps off and clean them. You should see the vent hole in the 3 parts of each cap that fits into the battery.

very good advice, unless you are electrically inclined?? Parts are high for alternators. The self regulators are very tricky inside. I repaired the older GM 10 models..You definitely need an electrical diagram of the unit...to trouble shoot it..
