3910 Tranny Fluid Leaking Through Vent

Hi guys!

I have a 1986 Ford 3910. Today while mowing, steaming, yellow fluid started streaming out of the vent on the transmission fill cap and around the neutral safety switch wires.

I changed the fluid in December, and have been running the tractor ever since. To the best of my knowledge, the fluid level was correct.

What is causing this?

Isn't yellow oil a sign of moisture?

Would putting a non-vented fill cap in help this problem?

Water in the oil usually looks like coffee with cream in it- milky brownish color. If you left it outside over the winter and you have worn or torns boots on the shift levers, you could have gotten water in it. Even if it was covered, you can get condensation in the transmission case but if you are using it regularly, the oil will heat up and the water will vaporize and go out the vent.I doubt that three months worth of condensation would cause your problem, however.

Make sure you didn't over fill it. It's supposed to take 12.2 quarts.

Do not put a non vented cap on it unless you want to blow some seals out that will require you to spit the tractor to replace!
