Such whining....

Move to Europe where gasoline has been over 4 bucks a gallon for years. Where license plates and vehicle registrations are 3 rimes what it is here.

We have it made. Gas and diesel is cheap here.............

Of course no one in Europe drives a 350 Ford or s 1 ton Chevy to the grocery store. They all drive cars sized in direct ratio to fuel cost. Trucks are for commercial entities, not suburbanites trying to 'play the role'.....

You bought it, pay for it.

Economy of scale my friends..... Wake up.

oh come off it. the prices are inflated cause they can get away with it. Just cause Europeans are dumb enough to get gouged doesnt mean were supposed to roll over and accept it. Most of those countries can be traversed in hours...not days and weeks. its not the same thing as it is here.

People that just say man up and pay are the reason its gotten so bad.

Big woop is right...I have been paying $4.68/gal for the longest time and our provincial government just released their 2012 budget and hiked the gas tax another 9.5 cents a gallon.

So boo hoo...I feel so bad for those paying less than us. We make the dam stuff and send it south and get screwed in the process.

Nobody cares about canadian problems. only care is to keep them from jumpin the boarder like the mexicans and creating more problems here:thumbsup:

see, that's what I don't understand. there's a gast station not 2 miles from my house that is always $.10 higher then anywhere else within a 15 min drive. they're the only gas station in my town so I know darn good and well their prices are because they don't have competition. now, drive 15 mins down the road and there's 4 gas stations right off the interstate and they ALL are within a penny of each other. I had always heard gas stations right off the interstate were always the highest because they'd catch tourists that didn't know the area well. that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. the other excuse I heard was "well the gas stations with the lower prices are the one's the fuel trucks don't have to drive so far to get to." If that were true then the fuel trucks that run through here are CLOSER to the gas station that's $.10 higher and the trucks have to travel FURTHER to other stations that are much cheaper.

I know a family that owns several stations and the price each pays for the same gas varies... even when it comes from the same delivery truck.

The stand alone station pays more then the same franchise station on the corner for 3 competing stations... the oil company gives that location a break to compete...

You would think stations buying the same product the same distance from the refinery would pay the same price... not how it works here.

For the most part... the cost is the same for the crude... the European Union and individual countries tax the heck out of it and most people go along with it... Europe has very high imported oil taxes.

Make your car/truck look like a trailer... and your set.

In all seriousness... I know a guy that bought an old motorhome on a one ton chassis... he gutted it mostly and uses it for his business as a mobile shop and made a ramp in the back... could fit a small car or tractor.

He did it because he has been able to avoid commercial tags and is not limited to truck speed limits...

Saves a bundle on weight fees and never has to stop at truck scales...

one thing I've learned in my short life is to never assume what someone can and can't pay for:thumbsup: I'm not saying I can't afford the truck I drive, or even the gas for it. it's just becoming a pain in the you know what when it shouldn't be. It's not like I bought a 1 ton dually 4x4 with a diesel to pull around a 5x10 trailer from time to time. I bought the truck that fit my NEEDS not WANTS, rest assure. besides, ever hauled 5-10 bags of smelly trash off weekly in a Prius? I need a truck, I've always had a truck and will always continue to own a truck. a car would be of no use to me and my needs. if I can do without some wants, I think our irresponsible government should as well. afterall, I'm not the one who brought on this inflation and devalued the dollar. no money printing machines in my house that I'm aware of. I hate when people want to compare us to Europe. If I remember correctly we broke away from that neck of the woods few hundred years ago and started our own country because of their foolish ways. you think we should now go back to those ways???:confused2: All I'm saying is gas has jumped up over a dollar in 4 months. don't you smell a rat? I sure do.

Despite high gas prices refineries were not making profit due to high cost of input (oil) that was hard to pass on customers. In example Lyondell-Citco that is the largest US refiner was in bankruptcy. Hess Oil refinery, one of the largest in the world, closed about a month ago. As refineries are closing to lower supply gas is going up. And that is not end of it. High demand for oil is driven by rising demand from developing countries. And those people who think that drilling for domestic oil will fix it are just dreaming. It will be sold on the world market and will not make even a dent in cost of gas. In example Canada or Australia produce way more oil they need for domestic consumption and gas is more expensive there than in the USA.

I wish . . my local petrol station has petrol and diesel at GBP1.49 a litre - I recon this is 9 bucks a gallon. And that is ordinary grade, not performance.

Tags - or tax disks in UK - well, my Kubota 1750 is free (as are trailers), but my old Discovery is about 300 dollars a year - a new one is double that.

On subject of US fuel prices, John Ward - a UK blogger - wrote a couple of pieces:

EXCLUSIVE: OIL – THE REAL MOTIVES BEHIND THE PRICE INCREASES

Obama slamming oil price manipulation shows a powerless President on shakey moral ground. | The Slog

I'd be interested in how accurate those in US think John is.

If this is a independent retailer then volume will affect his cost per gallon that he no doubt passes on. He would probably like to get lower, but can't afford to.
