What is considered "normal" oil consumption for a CUT diesel?

Sigh....An another unadulterated GM hit piece...I have never experienced anything you've said in 20 years of GM ownership and with trucks with 200K on the clock. Lighten up on the GM attacks..It washes out the infomative things that you have to say.

I am not the only one. If you read though this thread there is other accounts of GM oil consumption. I know no brand is perfect and just like you I have had good luck with my brand of choice, Ford. I know others have had tons of issues with them but I have not, just my experience just like yours with GM.

Again, read through the other pages of this thread. GM is the brand everyone is talking about. I clearly stated it was not all the GM's I owned, total of 4. It was just 50% of the, 2 particular ones. My 89 S-10 used a qt every oil change since basically new and then the motor blew up at 30,000 miles. Yes, it had plenty of oil in it when it blew. My 02 Saturn used a qt every 600 miles since 30,000 miles. I sold it with nearly 140,000 miles with virtually no change. GM said that was within the acceptable range.:confused2:

I had owned and still do own vehicles from every other manufacture out there and never had one use a drop of oil even going with high mileage intervals on changes like 12,000 miles with good synthetics.

Chris, we have owned 3 GM cars with the 3800 V6 and none of them used oil. My Y2K Yukon with the 6.0 has no oil consumption issues. Wife had a pair of Grand Ams with the Quad Fours, no issues. Her current car is a Saturn with the 3.0 V6, no issues. Owned a number of Fords that DID have oil consumption problems, though.

Like I said, every ones experience is different. My 99 Saturn and 05 Dmax had no issues and the Dodge, Fords, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, BMW, ect have never used a drop. Just the 89 Blazer and 02 Saturn.

Well then stop painting GM with the broad brush that you do...I know you hate anything GM, but lighten up a little.....Nearly every vehicle post contains a GM slam...Just sayin'

You have many good insights, but they get lost in the hammering of one brand.

Attacks? It looks like to me he was just stating his experience. Someone a little brand loyal maybe. Back on topic any engine that dropes below the add mark between changes that does not have a reason gets fixed. CJ

I agree Cris is biased against GM but he has had some bad vehicles it seems. BUT he is not lieing. My father in Law was a shop owner and he said "they (GM) all burn a bit" of oil. He was speaking of his 94 Yukon. This had been babied and was about 2003 ish. My saturn from the time it has around 100k has burned oil to about 1/2 qt per 1000miles to today and its closer to 3/4qt to 1000 miles. Since fixing leaky valve cover gasket it will only drip a drop or two of engine oil at most after sitting days, so its all burned. On the other hand i have a 1986 GMC s15jimmy. Its got the 2.8L and uses no oil between changes and had 190k on it before it quit running with a fuel issue a few yrs back.

I had a 93 Silverado - 145,000 miles- all me- didn't burn oil. I have a 2003 Silverado 2500HD- 103,000 miles all me- does not burn oil. Great trucks - no regrets.

Really, almost every post relating to trucks contains an anti-GM screed whether obvious or subtle...I'm just stating the obvious.

Some engines will use oil if the level is kept up at the full mark. Yet consumption drops off if the level is around 1/2 to the low end.

Come to think of it. So what if the engine uses a quart or two between oil changes?Oil is cheap and it's adding fresh lube.
