I did not know about the Fed deal, but I bought my last Harley in 2004 WAY before that.

I kinda see it like this. that big nasty evil 1 ton diesel might have an engine that can go 250-500k miles.. I kinda doubt a smaller gasser will make that, on average. the chassis? that's gonna be a same for same issue on each vehicle.. so a wash...

Hang on a second. I'm not saying a 1ton is evil, and I'm no greenie. I know the math PROVES a Hummer H2 is better for the earth than a effing Prius when you look at the REAL total costs (including all the govt. subsidiys for the heavy metal mining ect to make the fricking batteries).

Hear me out. I think I NEED TWO trucks. My wife's 2011 Flex CANNOT haul a square bale and grain up twice a day without getting destroyed inside. My little daughters are dependant on my F-150 hauling them and the horse feed etc up the hill to the pasture twice a day.

I am thinking about leaving th 1-ton at the farm all the time. Maybe even running a "Farm Use" plate & ins on it. it will still do all the hauling.

But I need something I can drive to work 160 plus miles 4-5 times a week, AND bring 3-5 50lb bags of grain home, or a 100 gallon water trough, or who the heck knows.

If I'm driving the 1-ton, I still need the little truck to haul the girls up the hill a couple times a day.

Dude, I am LISTENING to your and everyone's advice. You guys are all ahead of me on this road and I HUGELY appreciate the advice and insight y'all share with me.

i'd forgo a 150 4x4 then hit a 'ranger' class vehicle for the commute. it has a bead.. can haul stuff reasonably well in the bed... pluss pull a light trailer.. will kill a f150 o gas milage.. easier to park.. etc.. etc. I had a 99 ranger stepside .. loved it... but it's smal v6 wouldn't pull a horse trailer..

What about the Hog tariff deal back in 1982? That was worse that the GM and Chrysler bail outs.

how much better milage does it get than that 'evil 1 ton diesel'?

got to a good synthetic oil in that 1 ton and do less changes and I bet your oil change numbers come out vs regualr oil on the lil 4x4..though you could certaintly go to syn on it as well for more savings.

maintenance and repairs less? a repair is a repair.... I havn't found much difference in repairs between the 98 dodge ram, 00 yukon and 99 ford diesel I have ( sold the dodge recently ).. the only reapir that was more on the ford was rear brakes.. pulling the axles..e tc..
