Yesterday my dealer told me that my 5085M is in manufacturing, which means it should be delivered to my dealer next week!

I stopped by today to pick up my Frontier grapple and loader suspension package. Here is it on the truck.

Closeup of one of the cylinders. I like how they put grease on the rods from the factory.

I also picked up the loader suspension kit for my H260. I plan to install all the "dealer installed options" myself.

Can't wait for next week! :D

So I was reading through the installation manual for the loader suspension system, and I guess I'll need to take it back to the dealer to get it charged with nitrogen. I'll let them hook up the hydraulic hose that goes to the lift cylinder as no pressure should be applied until the tank is pressurized. I'll install everything else ahead of time.

I need to decide on what load versus charge pressure I want to use. My options are:

500-1500 lbs 1015 psi
1500-2600 lbs 1160 psi
2600-4000 lbs 1305 psi

I'm getting the 73" Global Heavy Duty bucket. I figure I'll use the suspension mostly when transporting full bucket loads of dirt and gravel. I wonder how much that weights? I'm thinking I should go middle of the road and have them charge to 1160 psi?

Does that sound like a good plan?

What is the capacity of your loader? I would base the charge on that. You could also determine the capacity of your bucket then get a density weight for dirt and go from there.

One question, is there a size or volume marking on the accummulator of the loader suspension system? Possiblely a manufacture's name, model number?

The H260 loader has a rated lift capacity of 4228 lbs 31.5" ahead of the pivot point. The grapple weigh in at 972 lbs, so moving large rocks and trees around, I think you're right that I should go with the 2600 - 4000 lbs setting.

I just want to make sure the suspension is not too stiff when carrying a bucket full of dirt or gravel. I'll see if I can dig up the weight of the bucket and its capacity.

I'll take a close look at the accumulator when I get back down to the shop this evening and let you know.

The 73" Global heavy duty bucket weigh in at 283 lbs and has a capacity of 10.7 Cu. ft.

I looked up the density of various materials, and here is what a bucket full of each ends up being, including the bucket itself:

Moist Earth (90 lbs per cu. ft) 1226 lbs
Clay (100 lbs per cu. ft) 1353 lbs
Gravel 1/4" - 2" (105 per cu. ft) 1407 lbs

I'll talk to the dealer about it to make sure the suspension won't be too stiff with a 2600 - 4000 lbs setting when carrying ~ 1300 lbs loads.

And just for grins since I was looking at the density chart:

Lead (708 lbs per cu. ft) 7859 lbs :D
Gold (1204 lbs per cu. ft) 13166 lbs :confused2:
Iridium (1383 lbs per cu. ft) 15081 lbs :confused2:

Here you go:

So its made by Hydac of Germany and the capacity looks to be 85 cu. in.

I picked up a cheap $99 radio today from Crutchfield (they are about 30 minutes from my house), and I had read here that JDs take the VW harness adapter. Hopefully they gave me the right one. Here's a pic of the radio and harness connector. Harness adapter is free with any car stereo purchase, so I was out the door for $104 and change. Way better deal than the $425 JD is asking for a plain AM/FM radio, let alone the $900 for the AM/FM/CD one!

Good chart there on the weight of lose materials in a bucket. Matches my experience etc. Two more to add to your list if you are doing build it yourself projects. Wet concrete from a redimix truck 148-152 lbs per cubic foot and hot mix asphalt 135 loose.
