Wednesday I topped to talk to a neigbor and his wife asked if I had heard of a 32 year old that burnt up in a fire. I didnt know of any. I called a friend and it wa in the next town over. I knew they guy that died, I went to school with him. In not surprised he was making that poison either. He was always into something illegal even in school. THe bad part about it there were Kids around at the time but not injured.

I cant say that I feel sorry for him as I have lost about 7 friends I grew up with over this stuff. Two died and 5 are on there way there now. I have a friend that farms about 2 miles from where the explosion happened and He had a few gallons of Anhydrous Ammonia come up missing out of his Tank wagon. We figured thats where it went. My wife works for a go between for an insurance outfit and several hospitals. She has to ask what the reason for the stay in the hospital was for. 95 percent of the burn injuries are meth related.

My DEQ inspector said they have been busy this year supervising Lab clean ups in park lands and other places costing the state millions in Hazmat Clean up.

It's amazing how ready some people are to find ways to destroy themselves. It used to be that heroin was the worst thing out there; now that seems tame compared to some of the other crap out there.

Huge problem around me as well. Hardly a week goes by without reading about a bust or two. I can recall one mobile lab that caught on fire when the police happened by. Couple of rocket scientists with burns did not know anything about it, lol!

Another one not long ago where the perp had not managed to make anything but managed to get burned badly. Since he had the ingredients, he got charged anyway.

If not for the innocents involved be it children or victims of various crimes perpetuated to support their habit, or taxes dollars wasted, etc., I would say that thinning the gene pool is not always a bad thing.

Rural western Virginia has had a plague of meth labs. Friendly police chief told me they have "mules" here - people who go buy or acquire raw materials for the lab men, for money or a supply of meth. Some of the mules are intelligent people who know drugs and what they do, and do it for the money. They're not mules, they're jackasses.

A member of my wife's family dropped from upper middle class, big IRA, good job status to penniless and in a shelter in just four years of crystal meth use. Internet says recovery from meth is about 10 percent or less. That's bad.

Seems to be a huge problem from the big cities to the small towns. When you see what goes in to the meth, it makes me wonder how could anyone be so stupid.

Yup. Ask any judge that handles criminal cases and I bet they all will agree, at least here in the Bible Belt, that meth is a much greater threat to the American family than gays, abortion, or any of the other "easy" targets of the far right.

I had a judge from Southeastern Oklahoma tell me that. He said in the old days, the substance abusers would get drunk on Friday night, get in a fight, get thrown in jail, but come Monday morning his wife would bail him out and he would be back on the job providing for his family. Now the judge says, after just a few months the meth users are mentally gone, and won't/can't hold a steady job to provide for the family.

Not to diminish the bad aspects of alcoholism, but meth addition is faster and more lethal due to the effects on the brain. The abuser loses the ability to reason like most people. Until society starts treating it as a disease, the problem is not going to get any better.
