Hello there -

I've never used this forum. My apologies if there are no meat farmers on here.

Has anyone ever had luck getting one type of grain to work with all animals? I raise beef, pork, lamb and goat. I'll be raising chicken as well, although I figured I'd have to get different grain for my birds.

I know copper is a deal breaker for my lambs.

Poulin has some grain (Textra, I believe) that they say is good for a number of animals.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks.

David

We use a nutrena multi use product I can't think of the name something like mole, but it is for for legged animals. We use it for goats and it seems to work well, though it is more of a treat than a main feed.

From the above it looks like your producing meat from these animals. To maximise your meat production you will have to fine tune the food for each species.

I use a 14% protein "all stock" pellet type feed for chickens and a diary cow- I believe there also was also a picture of a goat on the bag (implying that it would also work for goats).

Raising meat is my business, and I do want to raise it as cost effectively as possible, but if there was a "one size fits all" approach to grain, I could buy it bulk and save a lot that way.

I'm chatting with some grain producers which will hopefully answer my questions.

Thanks!
