IF you are real ambitious you could make your garden/tractor shed into a roundhouse.

I like the spikes for coat hooks idea and lantern post idea. I think I will definitely use those. I may also do a fence up one side of the driveway, staggering the ties and leaving space in between them as I stack them horizontally. I'm trying to set it up so mowing can be done easily. Man! Turn the barn into a roundhouse! Don't know if I'm that ambitious. Might not tell my wife that one. Haha!

Is that an abandoned railway line or active?

That was going to be my question since the RR still owns the ties even if they are on the rail side. Also how large is the easement for the RR? Do you have a crossing over the line?

Part of my property has railroad tracks that cut across it. We enjoy watching the trains go by usually twice a day

Not being smart, but you must have missed this :)

One thought is to talk to the guys that are responsible for replacing ties and track and see if you can take the old ties off their hands.
My other thought wont work seeing as this is a 'live' line.

I still like the roundhouse idea though. No, I don't mind spending your money nor your time and effort.:laughing::laughing:

I don't think he ever said he was going to get the RR ties from the line crossing his property. He simply said that he and his wife enjoy seeing the train twice a day. You can BUY both new and used RR ties at a number of places....

Why buy them if the RR will give them to him for FREE? It is worth a shot to ask the foreman.

I'll defiantly have to keep my eye open for any railroad work going on. My father lives 3 or 4 miles down the track so I have him keeping a look out as well. I think you can buy ties for about $5 each. He said when I finish building we can make one of those railroad seesaw carts  Then we can can go and back and forth between our two houses more easily.
