Home heating oil can be cut with a bit of solvents, making it not usable in engines.
Since home heating oil furnaces do not have pistons, the solvent is added to clean the nozzles out in the furnaces for more efficient burning.
However, since the solvent cut home heating oil is typically 20-30 cents a gallon more expensive then #2 dyed the majority of suppliers just buy #2 dyed.
Add in the chance of a cross drop - putting home heating oil in someone's off road fuel tank - and the duplication of inventory that would rarely move outside of winter months... there really is not a whole lot going for it to stock it.
We still wholesale it to a few vendors, but the majority just buy #2 dyed.
