Hi guys, finally decided to have our land mulched instead of using bulldozers to clear it. Just wanting to see what you guys would give as an estimate, even if you are not close. I am waiting back on a couple estimates of local mulchers (within 150 miles) and wanted to make sure everything is inline price and time wise. As far as mulching size, I would like to have pieces smaller than 6 inches length wise. If any of you guys are close and want to consider the job let me know. I live in Corsicana about an hour south of Dallas and three hours north of Houston. Here is a link to the pictures of the land. Thanks in advance.

Datsdats, whats the total area you want cleared? It may help the people estimating. I would love to price your job but transportation is a killer.

This is the about the size mulch or smaller you should get

I'm in S. Central Tx near San Antonio. Terrain looks a lot different (easier) than what we deal with down here. You should be able to find someone local. I wouldn't spend so much time getting estimates but find a good, reputable company. Not all mulchers and operators are created the same and the scale runs from skid steer or tractor mounted mulcher up to forestry carrier mulcher. Big difference. Lots of variables..
When looking at contractors 150 miles away, how many times you think they will come back to fix something or take care of you in the future? That's a long way to go for a bid and unless it was a good job or I wanted to take a road trip, I personally wouldn't bid a job 150 miles from home just to be the low bid. That's my two cents.. build a relationship but not on price alone.

I agree with yellowdog, but if your still wanting estimates we need to know the amount of acres your wanting cleared. Hard to estimate by just pictures.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. The total area is about three acres.

I have received two qoutes around $2,500 and one qoute for $5,000. All three have said looks like about a two day job. All three are between 50-100 miles from my place. I am guessing the one from $5,000 is not wanting to do it and qouted the high price, although he is the farthest.

I rented a Fecon mulcher head and CTL for $2000 per week.

..Or the guy who's far away has a machine that would do a really nice job. There IS a difference in mulching machines and operators.
One guy can come out with a fine mulching head, loads of experience, and power to spare and leave everything park-like. Another could come out barely being in the biz for a year and bring an old Tushogg* with missing teeth on an underpowered machine and leave large chunks, stumps, and logs buried everywhere. *(Tushogg is a fine head but I have seen them missing an entire row of teeth needed for finer shredding. The result is not satisfactory since this type of head leaves larger shreds and chunks to begin with.) Both jobs would technically be mulched but there is night and day in the finished products. If you can see some of their work and find out what machines you are comparing that could be the difference between being happy and being dissatisfied.

$2500 for two days sounds reasonable.
