I truly can't see the subject of Safety or Common Sense to be compared to "seeing a bogeyman behind every tree. Did you review the thread by BMod here on TBN? The OP's thread is in regards to unsafe operation of a piece of machinery in a way that it places children in unsafe situations. If you personally feel that the skid steer operator acted in a responsible manner, then that is your opinion. But I haven't read one of the preceding posts that agree that the operator acted in a Mature and Responsible manner. BTW, are there really Bogeymen in the Adirondacks? I have never seen one before. I don't even believe in them. I am more frightened by the possibility that there exists people that don't even think twice about putting their Children in harm's way. Especially, if it is preventable. Have a good evening.

I can't believe that some people don't have the common sense to be able to "just say no ! " or someone felt that they had to put there kids in danger to feel like he was showing off to who ever was recording it . I'd put money it wasn't the kids mom ,but one of his numb buddy's that took it . I hope it was a rental , at least we can hope he's taken it back before he hurts someone!!
I'd like to think that when the kids mother saw this ,she tore him a new one:thumbsup:

I am all for people using common sense. But I am also all for people deciding what, and what is not good for the welfare of themselves and their family without lots of government intervention and mumbo jumbo. Who decides what is mature and responsible for another individual? Not me, that's for sure... I have enough trouble gettin' through my own life!

BTW, I don't post my thoughts to necessarily agree with what everyone else has posted. I live my life the way I see fit. I follow laws that make sense to me and seem reasonable for the common good.. Otherwise I pick and choose the path I will take. I don't take kindly to outside influences telling me what to do or how to do it. I don't feed at the breast of big government, and believe in self sufficiency and self determination as much as possible.

I'm not saying that I would do what the fella' in the video did, but i DO believe in his right to do it if he so chooses.

And... there ARE bogeymen in the ADKS, and many of them, but they do NOT always hide behind trees. Personally, I'm much more comfortable in the woods with the known and unknown, than I am around townspeople with unknown motives and agenda.

Exactly what is a Bogeyman?

I know what a Bogey is.. as in "Bogey at 10 o'clock High, coming in fast!---- Get that .50 cal on him!" But what exactly is a Bogeyman? ...is he the guy that fly's the Bogey?:laughing: I guess I am trying to lighten this up a little. Would I have operated the SS with children standing on the grapple.. NO.. that would have been stupid to endanger them.. If nothing else a child could have fell out and broken its neck. or you could have accidentally hit the button that controls the hydraulic "thumb" portion, or the hydraulics have failed etc.. any number of things could have happened to hurt them. But they got away with it as far as we know. No one injured. and made a bad example for countless others to follow. As a child I have done and gotten away with quite a few stupid things. As an adult in charge...umm I am thinking this guy aint' too smart. A lot of personal risk for no reason.

It is apparent that you have misconstrued my post. I had mentioned the safety issues only in my initial post. You replied to my post by mentioning the subject of "Bogeymen" in an unorthrodox fashion. You stated "townspeople with unknown motives and agendas" and government intervention.

I have not read any post that offered this proposal or anything relating to government intervention. I, and the others, have voiced our concerns in regards to the safety issues involving children. No need to lighten things up on my account... I'm just discussin', not cussin'... I'm open to the fact that others have opinions that might differ from mine. Not the first time, and won't be the last, I'm sure! I've never had my viewpoint changed by anyone in cyberspace, and I sincerely doubt that I've influenced anyone else either.
Just expressing my POV.

Bogeyman... Unless I'm mistaken, I believe it is the correct term for what we, as kids called the "boogeyman..." but, I could be wrong on that also.. LOL

Whenever the guvmint perceives that we cannot do things for ourselves, yet another inane law written by folks who's job it is to write inane laws, is just around the corner. I don't think I misconstrued your post, and I also didn't mean to single your post out as being worthy of my inscrutable scrutiny and rapier wit. For the record, I'm not taking issue with yourself, or anyone else in this thread.. just presenting ideas from the other side of the fence from the "Land of No."
Thanks for the "bogeyman" link... I enjoyed it. I was never afraid of him in any of his forms, but where I was born and spent my first 5 years, in Wales, we had the Rag & Bone man. My aunts and uncles would always threaten that they would give my good self to him ( I was always getting into everything, and my nickname was "Fingers.." ) Anyway, the Rag & Bone man always scared the he** outta' me!

We might just have to "agree to disagree" on some safety issues..

That guy in the bobcat is a complete moron.. Heavy machinery are'nt toys..
Not coming from somebody that don't know anything.. I've made 450+ ton critical crane pics and it's not a game. Have seen the aftermath of what happens when a man becomes complacent around serious equipment..

To put childrens lives at risk like that is incredibly foolish
