I seem to have gotten the fuel problem solved. a new screen in the sediment bowl to replaced the one that was severly clogged did the trick. It started right up. Now on to the next problem. Ran the tractor for about 10 minutes tonight. Drove it around the yard a little and almost got it back to the garage and it quit. When I went to try to restart it, it would barely turn over like the battery was real weak. Prior to starting the tractor today, It had been on a battery tender and it was indicating a full charge. This is a brand new battery and I put it on the tender because when I had it running previously, it seemed weak after I was cranking it to get it started.

I thought I saw on another post that someone else had the same type issue. Once thier tractor warmed up, it stalled and seemed to drain a good battery. Could this be something to do with a bad ground or short in in the electrical system? I noticed after I attempted to restart the engine, the cable to the starter felt quite warm. Im sure if im on the right track with this line of thought. Any input as always is always appreciated.

Sounds like you have two problems. The tractor quit without being shut down and the starter won't turn the engine over.

As soon as the tractor quits, get off the seat and do a spark check. if you have a 12v system, do you have a 12v coil? If it's a 12v coil, it should have ~3.2 ohms primary resisitance. If it's a 6V coil (~1.6 ohms primary resistance) it needa a resistor to reduce the current or the coil will fail from overheating.

As for the starter, check the starer ground (it's grounded through the starter to the attach flange) and the battery ground cable attachment to the chasis. Look for rust, corrosion, or a loose connecton where it attaches to the chasis. Check the battery voltage .For a 12V electrical system, it should be about 12.6V with the engine off and about 0.5 volt higher when the engine is running. What size battery cables do you have to the starter.

It sounds like it's not charging and was running off the battery until it was nearly depleted. A quick way of confirming if it's charging the battery, is to charge the battery using a battery charger until it's fully charged, then try starting the tractor again. If it starts, remove the positive battery terminal, if it quits, it's definitely not charging.

Does it have the original generator and voltage regulator, or has it been converted to an alternator? If it has a generator, it should resemble figure 1 in the lower left corner of the following diagram.
