I am also blessed with a great wife as well as tractor. Just today, she helped me fix my backhoe.

David

I hope you reciprocated immediately by vacuuming the whole house, cleaning out the closets and scrubbing the bathroom with a toothbrush and then immediately engaged her in detailed conversation about her family and friends while cooking her dinner. Gotta reward those kinda gals.

Not to worry, I will add a flood of pics and hopefully a video when it arrives next week. I'm off to the cottage this weekend and I drive right by my dealers door, so he said he'd leave it accessible for me to check out if I don't get there before they close. I'll take my camera. It's going to be a long week of waiting, but it'll give me plenty of time to dig while I still can.

One day at a time... Should be a tv show like that...

It's also nice to hear that there are other guys who are still crazy about their wives, especially when the years start to pile on (we're at 12). Maybe it's my current age and stage in life (read young kids), but I don't see enough of that around me anymore, I was starting to think I might have been alone.

22 years for me last month. Lots of up and downs but wouldn't trade any of it. My kids are now 16 to 19, every age brings it's own challenges and fun. I really like this kid age but also enjoy my young nieces and they eventually go home.

If you can, take a picture of the 2 tractors together. It would be neat to see the size difference. So this is the Kioti forum, it was orange so.... :D

Backhoes are critical for a few types of tasks but there are other ways to move dirt and dig below what a FEL bucket can. Also, remember you are moving from a 1150lb lift to 2700+lb lift so there are things the loader can do with about as much force as your current BH. A toothbar is certainly helpful for digging into soil. I have used pallet forks to dig deeper than a loader bucket especially with a Quickspade attachment. It is nowhere near as efficient or deep as what a backhoe can do but it is much better for trenching or digging to four feet than a full width bucket. A stump bucket is another multipurpose attachment and again is great for ditch work or digging out roots or bushes. I also have an attachment that allows me to mount my landscape rake on the loader. When the tines are turned aft you can dig out a garden plot way faster than with a backhoe just by putting down pressure on the rake and backing up. Faster than a bucket even and you can actually see exactly what you are doing. Hard to get down force for real digging when the rake is mounted on the 3PT. And don't forget the almighty grapple! It can do pretty much what a BH can do with stumps up to 6 inches or so and is better than a BH for digging out rocks within reach.

Which Island?

Prudence. Middle of Narragansett Bay, RI About ten miles north of Newport and ten miles south of Providence. As you may recall the US Navy Atlantic Fleet was stationed in Narragansett Bay during WWII. Prudence was used then to off load ammunition when ships returned from patrol before going into port as a safety and anti sabotage measure.

Prudence Islanders fought the English during the Revolution but were not very successful as the Red Coats burned every home on the island after island farmers refused to sell them supplies for the big English base at Newport.

No foreign invasions in the past 250 years but we are ready if they come again.

That's cool! Do you even have any stores on the island? Are you on the N or S end?

At the ferry dock we have one combination Post Office, lemonade stand, swap library, gas pump, and one room general store (coffee, peanut butter, Wonderbread, candy and a few canned goods :(). We all treat the island as if we were on a boat. What you bring with you on the ferry is what you have. Lots of sharing between neighbors. There is a community heritage farm that produces blueberries, corn, garlic and a few other easily grown items that the deer leave alone. We'll soon have wine grapes and apples.

I'm in the middle on the west side. We see nice Kioti orange sunsets, sailboats and lots of C-130's with weekend warriors practicing takeoffs/landings at the National Guard base three miles across the bay.

Oh yeah, and we have more Lyme Disease ticks than almost anywhere on the east coast. We are all used to it and just do tick checks. We like the fact that the State Health Dept has posted "Lyme Disease" warning posters at every conceivable landing spot. Keeps the day trippers under control. "I want to check you for ticks" is everyone's favorite country song. They've loosened up the bow hunting limits so things in that department are getting better. Still enough deer that I could shoot one off my front porch or tractor every evening.
