In a pinch you can use dawn dish liquid for a surfactant, ounce or so per sprayer full (handheld sprayers). Don't use it with an agitator or you'll have a bunch of grass killing foam !!

I have the prof. strength Round-up approaching 10 yeo, It still mixes and kills about any thing green, except poison ivy, it curls the leafs?? Probably need to mix stronger??

This is the wrong time of year to apply glyphosate to poison ivy. In the spring, you will get a lot better results from Crossbow.

Glyphosate works better in the fall, as the plant heads toward dormancy. It will remove nutrients from the upper plant and carry the glyphosate along to the roots where it kills over the winter.

I sprayed weeds and grasses about ten days ago using a 50% concentrate glyphosate in a mix of 1.5 ounces per gallon of water, and the areas I sprayed are yellowish and wilting today. We have had a lot of rain since the spraying I did but I am not sure if that would have any effect on how long it took the mix to kill things.

My step mom is a master gardener and she says glysophate is one of the safest vegetation killers there is and has a very long shelf life as long as it isn't subject to freezing.

I remember one of the glyphosates I used said on the container not to use it if rain was predicted within the next 24 hours.

Many glyphosate products are rain-safe within a couple hours of application, but I'd go by whatever is on the label.

One important thing with the various brands/mixes is to make sure you're getting the straight glyphosate. Some products blend it with other weed killers in order to create a faster acting kill (probably so that it looks more effective to customers). But this can actually ****** the effectiveness of the glyphosate. To me, you're better off with the straight stuff, even if it takes 7-10 days for the full effect. It just works better in the long run.

With Roundup brand, the stuff with the purple label/cap is straight glyphosate (40-45% conc. if I remember right) and is very effective.

Good point, but what I used said rain-safe after 12 hours. You know, I have used vegetation killers in the past that said if it didn't rain after a period of time then it was suggested you water the sprayed plants to help the chemicals move down into the roots...cannot recall what type it was, though.

Weeds need to be actively growing or else most herbicides dont work as they go kind of dormant. If in a drought and you spray glyphosate on them and no rain for weeks some of the heardier stuff may not die. JD this is where the watering before of several days after will help, it will get them growing again allowing them to translocate the chemical to the roots.

Roundup (glyphosate) is labled for poisen ivy. it says to mix 2% solution which means 2 &2/3oz per gallon for spot treatment applications with had equiptment. Roundup and most all generics will have a surfactant in them already. But you can buy surfactant at TSC as well is called 80/20 i think surfactant.
