MossFlowerWoods had a family issue that has minimized his Fox hunting time. I am sure he will be back after Wiley Fox soon.

Later,
Dan

Thanks Dan. I apreciate the support.

All,

Yes my little Brother's funeral in Oregon last week and carpal tunnel surgery this past Monday have stopped my fox hunting for the moment.

But the wiley fox family has shown itself to my wife and daughters a couple times, and i am scheming how to kill them all.

But typing one handed prevents long or frequent posts.

Watch this space for ideas and updates.

Be well,
David

I'm sorry for your loss. And I hope your surgery recovery goes well.

So, I'm jusy wondering about this here fox. Is he dead? Did he stop coming around? What?:D

AAAAARGH!!!!!!

Dagnabit! That @#$% momma fox is teaching her kits to hunt, Last night at about 10pm we lost a guinea who had escaped from the chicken shack, and they wounded the "mad" guinea who was attacking the other birds in the shack so we expelled him.

So my daughters had to do vet care for the wounded guinea, and cried over the other, I called my neighbor and she lost 5 of her new young chicks (like 2 months old) just this morning!!!! and worst of all, they killed all 5 it seems, but they left 3 severly wounded or dead behind!!!

GRRRRRRRR!!!!

I am really getting steamed over this. Of course this all was while I was at the DR for my appt regarding my surgery on Monday. GRRRRRR!

Re: I've gotta kill that @#$% Fox!!!

Not really, much like handcuffs, they just keep the varmint in the right spot until the sheriff arrives
Please inform me on this one. Why do you guys want to kill the fox.
They just getting a feed ah.
We dont have them in NZ. Do they target your poultry or game birds?

Yes they target my poultry.

At the peak I have had as many as 30 guineas, 6 ducks, 3 roosters, and 29 chickens.

As of yesterday I have 5 ducks, 5 guineas, and 7 chickens.

I lost some from natural causes (I bought some old chickens and did not know it) I lost some in the various storms and 5 in the hurricane. I've lost 3-5 to the chicken hawk. I've lost a couple to racoons and a couple to coyotes. And a few have just simply dissapeared (like my big beautiful barred-rock rooster on Christmas Day).

But for the last 2-3 months, every loss has been the families of foxes which have been doing daytime attacks in my yard, with my kids in the yard.

It is time for them to go...

Count your blessings you do not have them where you live.

'Nuff said

Just curious as I did not read the whole thread, I'm assuming your fowl are not enclosed in a run? My guess is no and for chickens especially, you're going to lose them to foxes, dogs, raccoons, coyotes, hawks, owls, rats, etc. Unfortunately everyone likes chicken so unless they are completely enclosed, expect losses, that is part of life. I am surprised though over the number of Guinea losses as they are decent sized birds. We have only 6 chickens, not one has been lost but they are completely enclosed as the hawks would have gotten them for sure if they were free-ranged. Would like to allow them to free range but our dogs would likely kill them too.

Personally I would leave the foxes alone and build runs for the fowl. It's the only way to guarantee survival but I also understand the Guineas especially you'd like to free range as they get rids of ticks.

Didn't one rooster die of shotgun disease?:D

Yes, one mean nasty rooster who was trying to attack my 3 year old (and actually bloodied one of the hens also). He tried to attack everyone but me. he ran from me. He died of high velocity lead poisoning...

We are over-run with foxes. and daylight backyard raids are not tolerable.

I'm gonna fix the fox problem...

But I am building a roughly 15' x 21.5' x 10' x 21.5' run attached to the front of the "Chikn Shak" with 6' high fence and buried chicken wire to discourage digging predators. The idea is the guineas can get out and go on tick patrol, but the ducks and chickens are inside...

We loved the free ranging while it lasted, lost way too many birds though...

Thanks,

David
