Synchro or Hydraulic Shuttle?

I've never used a GST, but it appears to work like an automatic trans with no clutch, except you have to manually change gears.

This much I know. You can't come to a stop without stepping on the clutch.(no slip, not like a torque converter).
You can change gears, up or down without clutching.
There is some sort of Hyd. operated wet clutch pack, in the trans.
Is this different from the Hydro. Shuttle you guys are talking about?
Is your shuttle like the ones used in TLBs?:anyone:

Then it's probably similar to the hydro shuttle. On our 3750 it has forward, neutral, reverse on a leaver on the left side of the steering column. You have to clutch (or bump the lever into neutral) to stop, but no clutch to change from forward to reverse.

Yup, that's the set up FNR on the left column, 12 spd in line shifter on the left fender.
So if you are digging in a pile w/ a FEL do you clutch or just kick it in neut when you want to stop pushing?

Sorry, I didn't intend on hijacking the thread, but maybe this will help the OP decide.:ashamed:

When I'm gettin a bucket full from a pile, I do it in one fluid motion. In the right gear, curling and lifting the bucket while the tractor is slowly moving forward. If I have to, I'll clutch it to keep from stalling, or spinning, but usually can bump into neutral when the bucket is full, then reverse to back out, without using the clutch.

Just for clarification, on a Hydraulic Shuttle Shift, you are "clutching" whether you depress the foot pedal or move the column mounted shuttle lever to the center position.

I know little about the GST, but Agrantina, David7turns, Depmandog and some others have them; maybe they can help.

.

On the Hyd SS, are there two clutches, a dry disk, and a wet clutch pac inside the trans.?

Not sure but I think with the hydraulic shuttle there is not what we all call a traditional clutch. Just some kind of hydraulic clutch pack.

On the old L3750 hyd shuttle, it has a tradition clutch with foot peddle. The leaver on the steering column is hydraulic, forward, neutral, reverse.
