What is an "upcharge" on an oil change?

I'm asking why you are throwing money away by changing the oil three times too often. Then complain about an up charge.

i'm changing as per manual.

i'm complaining about a 42$ upcharge. ie.. 25 to like 67.. which is why they lost a customer. at that price should ahve been a synthetic oil. hi milage oil is only about 10% more than similar regular milage oil in every brand I see on the shelf. so their charge was 'fluffy gross profits' which, in turn, made them, in the long run.. loose money, on me. they zipped me one time for high$.. and will loose long term 'regualr' money.

bad business planing in my book. :)

The only people promoting 3000 mile oil changes are selling oil, filters and being paid for the labour. How can you complain about the price of an oil change when you willingly change the oil 3 times as often as required?

Just like the other 67 year old guy, I too have never paid for an oil change. I will admit that when we had a new VW Passat, the dealer's oil changes were included for the first 2 years of ownership. After that, I changed the oil, and I always use Mobil One. By the way, Wally world sells Mobil One (including the 0-20w my wife's hybrid requires) in 5 quart containers for about $26+, which makes it easy to use it in all my gas powered vehicles. I use Rotella syn. in my Kubota.

:thumbsup:Hang in there guys. At 80, I'm still doing it myself. Getting under the hood and under the (whatever) keeps me familiar with the (whatever). The nice thing is that the synthetics recommend longer intervals and I don't travel as much anymore. At 145 lbs, I can even slide under the Crown Vic without jacking. But I do wish the BX2660 sat up higher. Love working on that F-250 however.

Yah, I once had a '72 Ford Camper Special, which was a one-ton heavy duty truck. I could almost sit up under that thing without lifting it. Which was a good thing, since it liked to eat starter bendix's. I finally discovered that they sold extra-duty bendix's, end of problem.

Sound guy - It doesn't matter if you change your oil every 1000 miles, It's your money. I would complain too.
and if he changes it more often; they would be ripping him more often- so why don't you understand?

I've never paid for an oil change either Bruce. Kindred souls. lol or cheap, I don't know. but I like doing it myself.

I never pay for an oil change, and the reason is that I use the Mobil 1 synthetic.

If I buy it myself and pour it in myself, I know what is in the vehicle. I also know that once it is in the engine, it would take a chemistry lab to figure out if it really was Mobil 1 synthetic.

The temptation to charge for synthetic and actually put in cheap oil must be very high at oil change places.

No so much a cheapskate, but I do understand the failings of some people...

You wanna hear a good one. I had a diesel truck and I took it in to one of those quick change places. I ALWAYS bring in my own fluids and own filter ALWAYS, even to the dealer. I'm usually charged just the labor charge on any "oil change" special they have. Let's say the oil change for any vehicle is $29.95, they take off the oil & filter from that pric eand charge me around $15.00 or so for my oil changes - yes even at the dealer.

I mainly have a service center do my oil changes as it's documented proof of my service which helps in resale or any warranty issues. That's why I don't do it myself. Yes I know I could document with receipts but for the $15.00 it's worth it to me, besides they dump my old oil, which saves me a trip.

Anyway, I went to this place and I expected the same. But, he tried to charge me $100.00 BECAUSE IT WAS A DIESEL.

OK now the war starts. I calmly explained to him, #1 they didn't mention the "diesel" charge BEFORE I agreed to the service and #2 I explained I brought in my OWN oil and filter. Then I asked one simple question that made all this so & so's head short circuit.

I asked WHY does it cost $80.00 MORE to do the diesel than a passenger car. He said because it's a bigger vehicle. WHHHHAAATTTTTT!!!!!!!. REALLY? That's your answer to try and charge me $80.00 more?

I again calmly explained that it's the EXACT same work to change a car and a diesel. Albeit opening a few more bottles of oil.

After explaining that I was about to call the regional office he agreed ( THIS ONE TIME ) to charge me the same as a car.

So they will upcharge and sucker they can. I feel sorry for all the women and older people that are unaware of these scam artists, and don't fight back.

Jeez, he already explained.

apparrently he can't read that i'm useing the dealer service schedule for severe usage due to the conditions the truck runs in.

that's half the problem. most post without reading :( ( or simply lack reading comprehension skills most peole pick up by 8th grade.. ) :( :( :(

Y'all missed the best part of Soundguy's post: "maganger de'jour". I plan to use that one, spelled correctly, of course.

PS: if anyone wants to know the exact oil and water temperature and turbo boost pressure at which the torque-to-yield head bolts on a Ford 6.0 diesel will stretch permanently, let me know.
