What is an "upcharge" on an oil change?

Buickanddeere, you would do a lot better on this forum if you didn't act like such a tool.

I think the grown-ups are done with this thread. And yes, I'm blocking you too. Have fun making childish remarks that I'll never see. I'm sure they'll be soooo clever.

Having never read it before, I began to wonder why this thread was so popular, but now I see why. It's quite... entertaining.

Believed that and followed that recommendation. Destroyed the engine prematurely. Filled with sludge. 100% Mobil 1 and filter. Never again. My oil gets changed more frequently. My money, cheap insurance and a lot less expensive in time an money than rebuilding and replacing and engine.
Would be curious to know some more details. I personally have seen good results with M1, on 10k mile intervals, but I change filters twice a year (Nov when I put the snowtires on and sometime in the spring when I take them off), I only use Mann filters (buy them by the case) and havent had any issues in the various cars I have had.

I have a friend who is (IMO) one of the best, if not the best Volvo D24/D24T mechanic in the US and he has a 50k mile warranty on his rebuilds "conditional on
using Mobil 1 5W-30 exclusively and changing the oil and filter at
approximately 25k mile intervals"

FWIW, I use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck in my car and run it 10k miles. Guys on the TDI site have had oil analyses performed and say that it doesn't start to degrade (or whatever) until about the 15k mark. Some there have 15k OCIs. I still do mine at 10-11k. Never had sludge and it comes out just as nice as it went in.

Have fun with this :)

just a guess here.. but i would assume what someone else's UOA says is virtually useless vs a person's particular machine. IE.. each machine may behave differently.. different climate.. different fuels.. different air quality.. different driving habits.. etc.

kind of like person a and person b both taking the same cholesterol meds and then doing a blood test on only one of them to see how the meds work on both of them. :( ;)

True...it was just an example. VW OCI reco is 10k on my '06 TDI

and as an aside, Mitsubishi Fuso (Fiat diesel engine) OCI reco is 18k. Not sure I'd go that far as I don't think they increased the oil capacity at all to compensate for it.

at least with my diesels running 15 qts.. I don't mind the extended change intervsals so much vs a gasser engine at 5.5qts :) ( 6.0psd.. 15qts 5.3g / 5.9g...5.5qts... what wrong with that? :) :) :) )
