I'm looking at a 2008 inline baler ... problem is its 930 miles from the house. I think it can be towed behind the pickup at 45-50 mph that distance.

What do you guys think?

I think I'm glad it's not MY baler. An inline small square baler should fit on a standard width trailer, and you should put it on one.

I am sure you could pull it that far, but I would repack the wheel bearings before I started and check them often. On second thought, I said that wrong. I wouldn't repack the wheel bearings because I would put it on a trailer too. It would drive me crazy driving that slow for that far.
How much does it weigh? Why wouldn't you put it on a trailer?

It's 2750 lbs ... I can't make the trip or part with my truck and GN ... a local friend can make the run with 1/2 ton ford ... its 7'7" wide and I don't believe a car hauler is wide enough ...

Rent a deck-over trailer or pay to have it hauled? That is a valuable piece of equipment and there is no sense in damaging it to save a buck.

I would be curious what pricing you could get through uShip.

I wouldn't dream of trying to tow it that far. We used to have a 18' flat deck trailer that was 7' wide. You might need a couple of FEL's to load it. It might hang over a few inches. But chained properly that's what I would plan for.

Getting it on and off might be the PITA, but the towing part a piece if cake.

I could get it on a car hauler. Load it sideways or build a rack to support it from the deck to the base of the baler so the wheels are not supporting the weight.

I would figure out a way to get it on a trailer or just find a shipper to bring it. A 1800 mile round trip averaging 9 MPG in a 1/2 ton truck with a trailer is going to take 200 gallons of fuel at $3.75 average right now $750 plus his meals and a hotel at least one night you are at $1000 just for expenses. I am sure his time is worth something to him. Look at having it shipped or getting one locally.

Well looks like so far I'm getting out voted ... guess I need to re-evaluate this deal.

Todd,

I could NEVER drive 900 miles at 45 mph.

Ship it or forget it.
