I have 5 gallon metal Type II fuel cans from both Justrite (Diesel-YELLOW) and Eagle Manufacturing (Gas-RED). Justrite is manufactured in Illinois; Eagle in West Virginia. I purchased both from Amazon in one shipment as I wanted to compare them.

They are both excellent "lifetime" metal fuel cans. The Justrite can was $71, Eagle can $67. I slightly prefer the Justrite Type II Accu-flow can at $4 more.

I was tired of slopping gas when filling my Kubota RTV500 Utility Vehicle and slopping diesel when filling my Kubota Tractor/Loader from polyethylene tanks/spouts so I decided to upgrade and **** the expense. You will not slop fuel from material weakness with either of these well constructed fuel cans.

Note that the Justrite is sold with both 5/8" and 1" metal filler hoses. I recommend the 1" size filler hose. These metal cans are a little heavy and you will not want to hold them up longer than necessary.

The latest "Farm Show" publication displayed a link to a small company selling vents for portable fuel cans. These appear to be the same type that were installed on cans back in the "good ol days", and almost as expensive as the whole can from back then, ($4/per IIRC). If I can find the rag, will post the link in case anyone is interested.
Probably illegal to retrofit a modern day can, but if you still have some of the older cans laying around, or like me, just disgusted with the now-a-day setup.......

By the way, Jill does appear to have a nice display of.....er......ahem.....cans!!!!?

if you add a vent to a modern can then you've defeated the purpose of the no-spill spout that they come with. these generally have the vent built into the spout so that you can't overfill (the vent becomes blocked when the tank is full).

These are my favorite. Expensive but last forever.

im going to have to agree...i own three, best cans money can buy. they don't leak! They are much easier to transport because they are flatter in design. Not cheap, bought yellow ones through amazon.com (northern saftey cabinets) Get the ones with the metal spout. Worth the money, threw all my garbage plastic cans away.

Vents are simple! Drill a 1/2" hole where you want the vent (I used my shop vacuum as a blower from the spout end while drilling), run a wire through the can, pull a short tubeless-tire valve stem through. Remove the core, cap it when you don't need to vent! ~~ grnspot

I did this and it works out great, does not spill either. DOT didnt on the other hand, took the cans, and i got a 500 dollar ticket over it. If your doing any kind of commercial work, just deal with the crappy cans they have now, or get a transfer tank.

I'm surprised! I suppose DOT considers it preferably to spill fuel all over the ground, which the new style cans do a great job of.

I have a steel safety can and i hate it. The thing pours so slow, only nice thing is the flex spout.

What i done for the skid steer went and bought a big half gallon steel funnel and a 1inch diam rubber hose. Bungie strap the funnel to the loader arm and take the fill cap off of these safety cans. Only takes a couple mins per can to fill up.
