WHAT KIND OF FIRST POST IS THAT???? Somewhat rude, IMO.
shut up
Gary Fowler;2593688. I have slowed way down on my buying since I retired and no longer have any income. Luckily I got almost everything I needed prior to quitting work so other than the shop addition said:Well that was last Christmas wish and my new shop addition was finished prior to Christmas, then my old company gave me the opportunity to go back to work for a few months so I took it. Then I found out about the TLB Andy was selling so, having paid off my shop addition with new money and having a whole bunch left, I decided I did need another tractor and have all but bought the B26, just a matter of taking Andy the certified check and hauling it home. NOW what can I ask for this Christmas, maybe something like a larger backhoe bucket or not. Long time till Christmas so lots of time to think about it.
I think the wife will want some obedience training for her new puppy that will be about 1 year old by then, so maybe that will be a good gift to give ourselves. I am not patient enough to train animals, so I will have to find myself a dog whisperer to give the little German Shepherd some basic training on how to 1)attack, 2)stop attacking, 3)come 4 laydown That should be good enough.
X2 I tend to agree, especially for the first post. Just a thought? Perhaps he knows the member personally and was just joking?WHAT KIND OF FIRST POST IS THAT???? Somewhat rude, IMO.

I don't remember how I know this, but younger folks use "shut up" as we older folks would have used the phrase "no way" or similar. So, because I saw no other reason for it to mean what it seemed like it did, I'm going to believe it was meant to express amazement. It's all in the inflection used verbally which we can't do online unless we use those little ;-) things. So what do you say we let this one slide and assume the best.

Still seemed rather crude to express yourself for a first post, but perhaps newbie meant to say something in addition and didn't know how to delete and/or edit his post.
Thanks for posting. I have never heard the phrase used in that way before with that meaning.I found this on Wikipedia pretty far down the list when I searched for "shut up" I guess it's not very commonly used in this fashion.
"Alternative meanings
An alternative modern spoken usage is to express disbelief, or even amazement.[18] When this (politer) usage is intended, the phrase is uttered with mild inflexion to express surprise. "
