my gt 245 has 654 hrs on it- it has been maintained correctly-what kind of life does this old gal have left her-----what kind of life can i expect from this engine
If maintained properly, and you use a good oil and good filter and do it EVERY YEAR, regardless of hours, I'd say that 2000hrs sounds about right.
The Kaw engines are good ones. You may have to replace some extremities, like a starter, or the crank seal may start leaking, but other than that, if taken care of, it will last.
I had a JD 240 That I bought off dad and he bought it new in 1989. It mowed 3 acres, once a week, every week, until I sold it to my father in-law when I got the ZTR two years ago. He wanted it because He has an IDENTICAL 240 only a year newer. And he mows 2.5 acres. Never a lick of trouble out of either engine. Not sure the hours, no hour meter.
I know yours is a bit different motor, but I have never experienced any issues with the various Kaw's I have ran-across.
Edit: I guess I should have asked before I posted that, But why are you asking? If it is because you are trying to convince the wife you need a new mower, Then I'd say 700hours tops on that engine:laughing:
