Mahindra 4110
This month marked the seventh anniversary of my purchase of my Mahindra 4110. The red beast will turn over 700 hours sometime in the near future. I thought I would mark the seventh anniversary by giving a brief evaluation of my tractor's service.

The 4110 has done a little of everything for me on the farm. I have hoisted bales of hay so large that the rear wheels were just barely on the ground. hooked up the box blade and it added enough ballast to lift the bales in the round bale feeder.

I came home one day to find that my brother-in-law had borrowed it and was baling hay with it hooked up the a NH 473. It handled the baler surprisingly well.

My BIL also used it to mow hay with his new drum mower. Unfortunately he did not have the turn buckles adjusted tight enough on the sway chains and broke a bracket. Bracket was welded back together, and is still holding strong, two years later.

I have built several roads around the farm; the 4110 has played the role of bulldozer on many occasions. It is surprising how much the little red beast will push. I have even pushed over small trees with the 4110. Anything over 5 or 6 inches in diameter takes too long to make it worthwhile.

It's spent many of its hours pulling the bush hog. The PTO on occasion will need the requisite relay clearing, perhaps ten times over the last seven years.

It has skidded numerous trees while cutting firewood. The 4110 pulls a heavy load. If it can get traction it goes.

Most issues I have had have been general service type things.

I have replaced the L hydraulic hose on the filter housing a few times. The first time I ran a stick through the hose pushing a brush pile. The next two times the hose developed leaks. I have replaced the straight hose on the other end of the filter housing once.

I repaired the front axle cap once using Permatex blue sealant. I noted it is leaking again and I will probably opt to replace the cap.

About a month ago I had a hydraulic hose rupture, local auto parts store did not have the correct fittings for the hose, so they added a fitting at the point of the rupture. Fixed the problem.

My son-in-law lost the top link hanger while using the tractor last winter. I'm going to have to fab me one up from some really heavy duty 1/8" spring steel I have, the hanger was super handy.

The plastic mudguards on the edge of the rear fenders developed cracks within the first year. If I were going to sell it I would order some new mudguards for aesthetics purposes, as they aren't very expensive and the investment would probably be small for the return.

The relatively short arms on the 3 point hitch make using some implements more difficult, particularly the Ford 515 sickle bar mower I own. I bought some longer lift arms to use with the mower, and some other implements, but need to have some holes enlarged on the arms to allow the turnbuckle sway chains eye bolts to fit the arms.

Occasionally the shuttle shift does not lock into reverse, I just push it back into forward and back to reverse and that takes care of that issue. I need to adjust the shift linkage and that should eliminate the problem.

Overall I have found a number of things that the 4110 has that are built heavier and stronger than the comparable tractors in the large CUT size for Kubota, NH, JD, Massey, etc.

The front end loader has performed flawlessly. I bent the top of the bucket, but have invested in a heavy duty 3x3 angle iron to reinforce the bucket. After having a tractor with a loader I can't imagine not having a loader at my disposal. I've dug some pretty deep holes with the loader, and moved a lot of dirt, trees, and lots of other stuff with it. Used the loader extensively remodeling a house. Pulled the tractor up to a window and filled the bucket with rubbish again, and again. I also tore down an old house and used the loader extensively to haul the old trashy lumber off to a burn hole I dug with the loader.

Filters have not been a problem. I ordered hydraulic and fuel filters from Galen for the 200 hour change. I purchase either Napa Gold or Purolator Pure One oil filters locally.

I would not hesitate to buy a Mahindra tractor again. The 4110 has been lots of tractor for the money, and it outperforms other CUTs in its class with ease.

 I feel the same way about my 10yr old tractor. Hope your next 7 will be just as strong
