Engine miss, loss of power, close to loss of sanity

attempted to bleed the injector lines, but when I tried to loosen the two outer ones, the lines wanted to twist with the movement of the nut. I will try to free them with penetrating oil, and attempt it again. I figured if the tractor would run, then the air would eventually pass through the injectors; I let it run at fast idle for about five minutes, but no change. The way the filter assembly is set up, I would think that it would be difficult for trash to make it to the pump- even as trashy as my filter & bowl was. If I am correct, the unfiltered fuel falls inside the center of the filter, passes thru the filter material, then travels up into the hose going to the pump. Not impossible to get to the pump, just hard, IMHO.

It takes forever to get rid of air in the injection line. Since air is compressible you need to pump in enough fuel to increase pressure in injection line high enough to lift the needle in the injector and pass the air through it. That is why you need to crack the line and bleed the air out. Or if the tractor runs let it run until it starts running as it supposed to. 5 minutes at idle might not do it.

Thanks, redneck in training;
Curious, if I loosen the injector line at the injector, will fuel gravity thru pump to the injector?
I've had tractors, other type of equipment get air locked before, but never had a problem with this tractor. Forgetting to open that bleeder petcock has really bit me in the butt.

I doubt that fuel will gravity flow through the injector. It's usually located above the level ofthe fuel in the tank.

Sounds like switching injectors around is next after all...

I had this problem on my tractor last month. I had parked it on a steep hill and let the tractor idle. Water and crud filled the fuel filter bowl. The system lost suction, and wouldn't get primed(and would die a about 30 seconds after starting).

I loosened the rubber line from the fuel filter to the fuel pump at the pump. Air came out, and the tractor immediately started running properly. It is likely that the return line(that self bleeds the system) is plugged either in the pump or the line.

Anyway, bleeding the suction of the pump helped my situation.

Problem Solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again, I was my own enemy.
Somewhere in my trouble shooting, I had attempted to take off the injector lines to check for trash. On top of the injector pump, there is a plunger assembly(?), that the injector line screws onto. Attempting to loosen the line, I turned it, but actually loosened the plunger assembly, backing it away from the cam inside the fuel pump. This meant it was not sending the proper amount of fuel to the injector.

You guys all have my thanks and gratitude for the help!
My next move was to load it up and head to the shop, when I decided to post my problem here......and voila', success!
