crash325, one thing I know fir sure is that YOU will put that box to good use! Always enjoy the pictures you post of what you are doing!

Thanks Two Bit's,

Yep another project on the way. Wood Stove #5 (not counting my outdoor stove). It is more of a Cook / Heater than a heater that will cook. A lot like #4 but with a lot of changes. Actually too many new ideas, parts count out of sight and lots of problems. #6 Will be back to "Simple" and easy. Well maybe.:thumbsup:

I'm actually quite fond of 6011 and 6010. 7018 makes pretty welds but you can do a reasonably attractive job with the others and they don't need a rod oven.

If you run 7018 and have never baked them, they run nicer when hot out of a rod oven. Try it.

I roll my welding glove across the 7018 slag "cup" or tap on clean concrete etc to knock it off. No problem either way.

Lots of folks (self included) don't bake 7018 for non-code. low stress work, but each rod and the recommended procedures for them weren't made up for giggles.

If you want "pretty" you can cap other welds with 7018.

Much love for my Lincoln AC/DC. I have other, better welders but it's small, tough and handy. It's done fine over twenty-plus years.

Man what a great deal.
I'm gonna have to get one of those AC/DC Tombstones just to say I have one.

I'm not up on the technology but unless you are working on a project that calls out the specific rod why not run 6013?

I've never used any of the modern stuff. Tig - Mig or what ever. hope to try it some day. But this guy does just about every thing I need to do.

I have been using 6011 almost forever for almost everything. Have run a fair amount of 6013 & 7014, but always go back to 6011. Just think it is a little stronger.

Have found that not all brands of any rod are equal. Lincoln 6011 and I don't get along. They make a cheaper rod that runs well for me. Can't think of its name at the moment, but had an odd ball 6011, 1/8" that I used for almost everything, thin to thick. Gona get some more of it next time I need rod.

Still have my old AC only Tombstone, will never sell it. Nice to have both in case 1 of them dies.
