My Front Axle Mount Broke loose. At first I thought the mounting ears on the pillow block (where the Axle pivots PN SBA322011960) broke off. On further inspection, I see it's the chunk of metal (about 8"x5"x1") that came lose at the welds from the frame.

Good thing I wasn't scooting across the field at warp speed!

Anyone else have this happen? I'm fairly certain that piece is not cast. Anyone know for sure?

I have access to a Sub arc but it would be fairly painful both in terms of transporting the tractor without a front axle as well as scheduling a time... The good news is I'm buds with the local Vo Tech Welding instructor so the price will be right.

I'm thinking just a little grinding and a multi pass with good old 6011 will get me back to good as new.

Any thoughts?

Sorry for your misfortune and glad you're safe. Since looks does not matter here I'd try to re-enforce the breakage by putting some sort of permanent splint as well if I can. Can you post a picture ?

It is not cast. It was welded from the factory. I would support the front of the tractor and remove the frame. Should be easy to re-weld, just be sure it is aligned and the pivot blocks are the correct location. Might want to take the front axle with the frame to assure fit.

Good Advice.

I figure it will be obvious exactly where it was. After grinding the old welds off it might not be so obvious.

Maybe the smart move is to put it back in place and take some measurements. Then grind off the old welds (Or maybe they used hot glue  )
