I was scraping the drive after hard rain and the 3PH quit working on my D2050. I have some questions for the pros (which I am far from).

I removed the screen filter for the hydraulics (which was clean as a whistle) and drained all the fluid (got 5 gallons out of it) and replaced with new fluid (which took about 3.5 gallons) - which seemed odd. Could too much oil in the reservoir cause a problem (like 1.5 gallons too much)? It ran like this for 4 years since I've owned it.

When I used to open my transmission fill cap I used to see oil spitting around in there (probably from a pump) but its not doing it now. So I wonder, does the hydraulic pump need to be primed on these tractors? If so how? Is there anything else I can do figure out what my problem is with my hydraulics before I take it in to a mechanic? I got a feeling this ain't gonna' be cheap to fix.

Also, just a side question: Right above the 4 bolts where the filter is installed (right side near footstep, toward the rear) there's a "fill to" bolt. And then, on the left side of the transmission there's another one, a little bit higher, to the left of PTO shifter. Why are there two "fill to" bolts on this when it works off the same reservoir?

Thanks for any and all help.

Roy,
I am not familiar with your model tractor but will attempt to answer some of the more generic questions.

I doubt you had to much fluid in the system. These are not sealed so any extra fluid would have been expelled through the breather or blown seals etc..

Where is the screen you cleaned located? Was it inside the transmission housing or external housing?

Oil splashing in the reservoir: Suspect this was return flow. If you are not seeing any now could be an indication of some thing has changed. On some models there is a lever to select 3PH or remote valves for FEL etc.. If you have this option you accidentally bump the lever?

Two fill too points: Suspect common casting for different models and some models may not allow access to one of the fill to plugs.

I have a Mitsubishi D2050 and had the same issues. I removed the hydraulic pump and flipped the impellers. There was just enough wear that it would not pump. Worked perfectly. I also had the unloading valve under the case lid to get stuck in the dump position with a very small piece of trash. I removed it and cleaned it good. Just mak sure of the locations of the jam nuts when removing and replacing this valve to ensure proper loading and unloading on the system.

I had the D2350 and it sounds like a completely different tractor from yours. I did replace a hydraulic pump due to leaking into the crankcase. If you check with Valley Power you can get more information and perhaps even a manual - I did.
