Screening Plant Project

The only sand washers I see are the one that look like water wheels at a mill. And they are all made in china. I'm having some issues with the mesh because its jumping around so much, its breaking at the bottom where I have it bolted to the discharge shoot. I may have to lash it to the frame with wire.

Thanks, I'll have to see if I can find any info on them. You don't happen to know where I can find some diagrams that show how they work?

I love this thread! We are starting our screen plant build next week and have recieved so much inspiration from this site.

If the mesh is breaking, just use some clear silicon to patch holes and where it is metal to metal. The silicon helps reduce the vibration and keeps the screen from breaking.

Thanks for the great info and we will get some pics up when we have some solid progress.

Any new information of the project?
How is the screen plant holding up?
Have you made any changes to the screen plant?
Any new photos?
Any comments on how it was designed and built, what would you change other then a lower hight?
Wonderful looking screen plant, thank you for the info on the site.

What are the tires used for? Is the frame attached to the table through the tire axles to act as a shock absorber some way? Called today for 35 yards of top soil, they want $900 for the load, think one of these projects are in my very near future.

thanks

Mike

That's almost $26 a yard. You should be able to find nice 1/2" screened loam for around $22 a yard.

The next best quote I found was 27.75/yard delivered, and they did not even laugh or chuckle when they said it. It has been a few years since I have ordered topsoil but I seem to remember it around 15/yard not too long ago.

Well, I'm finally done and it works great!! I've screened 30-40 yards with no hiccups. I think I will build a engine guard, to keep an errant rock from hitting the engine.
Somehow I missed this project all these years!

Mark,

You sure did a great job building it!!!, and looks like it works great too!!!

Very nice!!!... I'll have to add that to my build list!:)... I go down on the riverbank and get rich black topsoil and sand!... But before I use it, I have to pick through it and get the sticks out and other debris.

Thanks for sharing your project!!!, and the pictures!!!:)

I had several hundred of topsoil that was grubbed off the land at my girlfriends cabin that was mixed with tree stumps, roots and rocks. All this wonderful topsoil was trucked away and dumped in a pitt. I saw AK's screener and thought it was a wonderful idea to recover this soil rather than pay $300 a tandem for topsoil.

I added a few touches to the screener in order to pick up and move the screen with my JD 2210. Still a few bugs to work out and have to add wings to get rock, sticks, etc from hitting the motor,

Overall I am pretty pleased up to this point
