Anyone else have their personal "Pet Cemetary?"

The dog I mentioned that was lost in a roadfront accident...well, that was in mid winter. Ever tried to dig even a small, shallow grave when it's 10 degrees and the fround is frozen...and by hand? Took me about 5 hours.

Ouch, that must have been tough, both the digging and the stiuation. I knew her time was coming, and had planned to cover a spot with styrofoam so that it wouldn't freeze; but we had an early snow and the ground never froze.

We've lived here for over 27 years, have buried quite a few animals under an old tree at the edge of the bush about 200' behind the house. Marked graves include 2 cats that died of old age, and another old cat that couldn't outrun a coyote. Wasn't much to bury with that one, a lot of fur, tail and some innerds. Lately our 4 year old grandson spends a couple days a week here, so we've buried a few squirrels, mice etc.(roadkill, mostly). I think it's a good way to explain to the young fella about respecting life and remembering those no longer with us. Pretty hard for his age to understand the finality of death.

The hard part is if you have to sell the property after 27 years of animals. Now have a new place for the next years.

We have a few places around our property where we have buried pets and wild critters alike. One area is our current "cemetery" with some unmarked rocks over the graves. All the critters we have buried so far have been on the small side. (fish, mice, baby rabbits, hamsters, etc...)

Not quite sure what we will do once our two dogs' times are up...

I only have pets that I can eat when they die.

My stomach is a chicken cemetery.

WHEW....and here I was imagining you had horses or goats, maybe llamas, etc. for pets...

The ashes of our pets will be placed in the crypt with my wife and I.
