Hp is a vague measuring point for me. I go by cc's. What a higher hp saw will do cutting up an 8" limb as opposed to having its 24" bar buried can be two different things. Hp can be made with either volume or revs. Lower cc saws with high revs will cut very fast when cutting up smaller timber so much has to do with what you want your saw for. If you have a steady diet of 18" or more timber, I'll take the larger cc saw everytime. If I need it to go faster, I'll put a shorter bar on it. That is why most of us cutting more than a cord or two of wood cannot do with one saw. If I had to have one for the average guy doing 5 or 6 cord here in the N.E. it would be the 5105 Dolmar or the 357 Husky or the 362 Sthil if I had bigger wood to mess with. I'd get the Dolmar with an 18" bar, the Husky with a 16" and 20" and the Sthil with a 16" and 24". I am not experienced with the newer Husky line up of 500 series saw so I'd have to take their consideration under advisement.

I've got a partner just a bit older than that, no anti-vibe, no chain brake! Its sits waiting for a chainsaw powered winch or some other attachment.

I run a MS260 Stihl, buddy runs the matching Husqy (maybe 346xp? Can't remember). We swap saws once in a while. I like both of them, his has a bit better anti-vibe, better chip filer on the air cleaner and seems to accelerate faster (mines been tuned up several times, maybe the epa muffler?). Mine has better balance, easier to clean, easier to fuel and oil etc. I'd be dead even deciding between them side by side.

I Just picked up my new 562 today and the 440 and 290 stihls both of which i am very familiar with... well they dont hold a candle to the Power to weight and balance and versatility of the 562 especially the ms290 that saw would crap out and cry for mommy if i strapped on a 42 inch felling bar with a skip tooth and cut any thing let alone a 50 plus inch locust tree.
Husky didnt build a saw. They built a ******* Tree eating monster. I love it so much i went and drop another 1000 today when i ordered a second one this afternoon to give my pops for fathers day.

$1000:eek:

Are they really that pricy out there. There is no way in h3ll I'd spend a grand on a sub-5HP saw @ 59cc's. Heck, you could have had one of the BEST all around saws with one of the best HP/weight ratio for $200-$250 less, And had 20 cc's and 1.6HP more and not much more weight:confused2:

The 562 is one heck of a saw! Husky really got it right! Most impressive stock saw I've ever run and I've run most all of them.

But I would not put a 42" bar on it, or pay $1000 for one. Mine was $680 with a 20" Tech-Lite bar.

And the ms290 should not even be mentioned in the same sentence...:D

Well actually the saw was 700 but the 3 extra bars and spool of skip tooth chain pushed the price up real quick and the one i got for my dad i just ordered the same set up.
I also dont shop around i have made myself independently in the last 2 years so i kinda just blow money because i was dirt poor growing up so i tend to just find what i want anymore and buy it because i cant seem to spend more than i make since i became self employed a couple years ago. But ya saws shops are pricey here on the Palouse because most of the folk that live out here are farmers not loggers. But if i had drove up to bellingham on the westside of washington near the canadian border, logging is life so they have a better grasp what a saw is worth. But when i ordered the saws at the local saw shop. I got looked at like i was from mars most farmers only order farm bosses and smaller .

Not to split hairs, but are there any trees up on the Palouse? Good to hear you are making a decent living though.
