Was just thinking that an advantage to those older firetrucks is that someone with fair mechanical skills can probably work on them, unlike the newer ones that would need a degree in electronics to figure out a problem.

Yes, but they usually have unique parts. We had a radiator go out on one truck, it needed a hand built replacement ($$$). It happened while fighting a fire. I was probably the only one in the history of the department that ever opened the valve to feed water from the fire pump to the radiator.

That was that same truck that had dual synchronized ignition systems (plugs, points, distributor). IIRC, that was a '61 Pirsch with a Waukasau engine in it.

My dad had a Ford F750 semi tractor back in the late 50's or early 60's and he was always telling people how easy it was to service it himself....yes, servicing is easy IF you can get parts.

Nice thing that the Ford 65' F800 has is a 391ci, and plenty of room to work on it when I need to.. heck it only has 7762 miles on it and no computer to mess with. Monday I'll have the rear brake light repaired and then work on getting it titled for Idaho. Anybody know where I can get a life size Santa Claus cutout that I can attach to the rear platform. What to use it for a photo op next July. Family Christmas card:laughing:

Replace that funny looking thing under the air cleaner with modern FI and you will boost the hp from 235 to 375 immediately....

About the life size Santa figure, check Ebay and do a search for "life size Santa" there are a number for sale there including a Mr. and Mrs. Santa cutout for about $45 with shipping.

That's a FE block isn't it? Those were good motors. Made for years. Interesting some displaced as little as 332ci, all the way to the 428's.

Hospice thrift stores usually have lots of left over holiday stuff...

Got it to the property, but everytime I stopped to check trailer brakes and tie downs it always drew attention. So, my trip took longer but it was enjoyable. I should also mention that two days before the trip I wanted to be educated on the pump. Well, I mentioned it to the fire chief who is also my co worker and said to bring it to the fire hall for a demonstration. Hooked up to a hydrant, loaded up the 1000 gal tank and turned on the pump. I was impressed by the smooth sound of the pump and the flow rate. Like I mentioned in my earlier posts, everything works. Since then I've given hoses and other brass pump equipment. Need to find the 2 rigid draft hose sections. May look at ag sprinkler hose which is semi rigid for drafting. Plan to replace the small 1/4" relief valves with 1/4" ball valves for ease of use. The brass units are 47 years old and I do not want to damage them as they are not readily available. Plan to change engine oil and "sock" filter on my next trip and now looking for 10wt drip line oil for the pump - need to drain and refill the pump oil.

Bob77064,

For the age it's in excellent shape. It even has the original tires with studs embeded on the rear duals. But if I don't license it and stay off the highway i'll leave them in place.
