Welcome to the forum!

I have no experience with the YM2000 but it is arguably probably one of the most popular machines in the line up. I would stick with 4' attachments better to have more power than not enough. ;)

Going to be hard to go wrong with Yanmar diesel tractors anyway they are pure simplicity and well built. Lots of good help on here for it plenty of guys have them and all seem to love them! :)

Have you seen the Gotta buy a Yanmar video yet that will seal the deal!?

here ya go- I MUST buy a yanmar tractor | Xtranormal

Very funny Video - Thanks!

My muffler and exhaust sound aren't bad. I can muzzle the exhaust pretty quiet with a gloved hand. But I must have the clankiest Yanmar twin ever made. Every stroke is like a sledge on an anvil.

I would pay money to tame that racket if I knew what would do it. It is painful to operate for even a minute without hearing protection. The only comparison I've seen in person (there aren't many Yanmars around here) was a 'reconditioned' YM2000 at a VN importer. Theirs sounded a lot more civilized than mine.

Power Service cetane improver (gray bottle) helps tone it down, but I shouldn't have to add that to good quality fuel.

I think it is the extreme sharpness of the fuel knock (as well as the loudness) that makes it feel like it will damage hearing.

You could probly buy the panels from a parts tractor either at Hoye or somewhere, maybe that Coldwater guy out west. Then im sure you could fab up something to hold them onto your tractor, that is if you felt like a project.

The PS gray bottle California mentioned sure is a Yanmar diesels helper it sure does a great job on mine too.

My wife even noticed the difference! I use it at double strength fwtw dont know if that helps double or I am spending twice as much as I need too but thats my story. :D

I use the booster too. I always add a little extra too. Don't know whether it helps or not but I sleep better at night thinking it does. :D

...would like to get my hands on the owners/operators manual, and a repair manual on the YM240...as I'm sure I'll need this down the road.
I just found an old bookmark to the CD I bought long ago.

Classic Manuals Online Download or CD

If that guy is still around, $20 is a good price for the Operator and Parts manuals.

You don't really need Service [the dealer shop manual] until you want to tear in and overhaul a major component - hopefully never.

I can also recommend the I&T third-party service manual that's always on Ebay for around $25. It's a very condensed Service manual that lists the maximum wear specs etc that a pro would need to make repairs. I have both this and the Yanmar Service manual. Realistically, I think I&T covers anything I would attempt such as brakes, testing and replacing injectors etc.

Mine still has the original muffler. If you look behind the heat shield, it appears to be cast iron. Doesn't sound too bad at all.
I didn't understand this post until today I saw an ebay ad (YM1700) that had that cage around the exhaust manifold. Mine, and I thought every other Yanmar, has the cast iron exhaust manifold naked. Adding that enclosure might help quiet it a little.

I once took a stethoscope and went looking for the focal point of the clank. It seemed to be over on the intake side of the head right where the fuel is injected. If so, it is a true fuel knock/instantaneous burn and therefor unrelated to the sound of exhaust after it has departed through the exhaust valves.

I too had no idea what he was talking about! I thought they all had the cast manifold, even the chineese replacement parts. I thought this pic was of your tractor California, till i read your post. I too have never seen one with this sheet metal cover?

OK, thread highjack here.

It's funny that I wandered over here tonight ... been busy and haven't visited much.

California: I'm talking about this. (plus the special top connector that comes with Tractor Supply's version of the QH, or is telephone special order from HF). Although I suppose the Pat's accessory could work too. As for me, I like the added rear ballast that a Quick Hitch provides.

Funny that you mention the Quick Hitch. I picked up a used QH (looks like the HF one California linked to) which is missing the top hook. I am tracking down someone to sell me one. (Any ideas?)

But -- you raise a question for me ... my bush hog fits just fine right now (without Quick Hitch). Am I going to have trouble with my PTO if I put a quick hitch on? Shaft might be too short? Solution?

I figure I really need a QH as I am a girl and wrassling the bush hog on and off is a PITA as hubby has been doing it with / for me. I have access to an awesome 4x6 REM drag for my pastures and want to be able to switch out easily.

Also what is the "special top connector" and do I need that (YM2000D)?

Another also -- what's the deal with the bushings that some are sold with (and I believe I have seen mentioned here before)?

Thanks.

Just as a catch up ... I am closing in on 100 hours. Bought it late January 2011. Didn't use much in the winter. No snow. No grass. Moved firewood in the bucket. Oh yeah --- and 4 x 5 bales of hay with a set of pallet forks on the bucket! Bush hog was my counter weight.

Did buy a utility trailer to haul it places. Juuuust fits with the bush hog wheel dangling off the end.

I love my tractor. And my husband thinks it's all right too. ;-)

Here's Tractor Supply's website picture of their QH. The black fork pinned on top is the accessory that many need, to match to implements that aren't standard height. (It swings down horizontal to the rear). Harbor Freight sells the same QH for far less but you have to phone their HQ and order that adapter separately - it isn't shown on the HF website. Mine cost $18 and arrived in an absurd amount of bubble wrap and plastic peanuts, for something essentially indestructible.

Here's TS's whole ad
with a larger picture.

Measure everything before putting a lot of work into this. Many implements aren't standard dimensions and won't fit a QH's fixed dimensions.

PTO shaft length? Slide it out another 4 inches longer then verify that it has another 10 inches or so of engagement beyond that. TS sells 6 inch PTO extenders if you need that.

The little bushings, sleeves, are to bring the pins on your implements up to the diameter of Cat2 implements to fit the QH snugly. I don't bother to use them since I don't put on enough hours to wear anything out. If I mowed commercially I would use them.

I like the QH. I can back up to an implement and shove it around with the QH to get it lined up, then just hook under its pins and lift. A couple of items still need that adapter but it's no big deal to adjust the top link length to align it.

100 hours already? I think that puts you in the top quarter of owners on here.
