Buying Advice Considering a YM2000 purchase

   / Considering a YM2000 purchase #21
Welcome to the forum!

I have no experience with the YM2000 but it is arguably probably one of the most popular machines in the line up. I would stick with 4' attachments better to have more power than not enough. ;)

Going to be hard to go wrong with Yanmar diesel tractors anyway they are pure simplicity and well built. Lots of good help on here for it plenty of guys have them and all seem to love them! :)

Have you seen the Gotta buy a Yanmar video yet that will seal the deal!?

Since I'm a newbe....a few dumb questions: Are the implements rated as light, medium, and heavy? Or do you just look at the overall construction/price to arrive at this?

Yes , cutters are rated light, med, heavy duty.LMC only builds the steel frame for the cutters. The Gear boxes & blades they use, you will be able to match up about anywhere if you were to have any problems. . You shouldn't have any problems with the gear box if you use a light grade shear bolt... In time you will have to replace blades . My tractor & LMC cutter came from Fredricks about 7 yrs ago. I have had no problems out of the tractor or the cutter

Bridler,
You might also concider the YM2000B. It is the same great drivetrain as the 2000, but it has a few refinements. It was a transition model and has some added safety and comfort features. I have had mine for over 8 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. I see Fredericks lists them for only 200 more hard earned dollars than for the YM2000.

If the additional hood side panels on the 2000B tame some of the racket then $200 is well worth it to preserve your hearing.

Thanks Bruce. But, I've already put money down on the 2000 and fitted the tractor with turf tires....hate change up this late in the game....:confused2:

yea the side panels are suppose toi be quieter and the extra gauges make it worth the $200 esp since you already spent what close to $4500 on just a plain 2000.

Mine still has the original muffler. If you look behind the heat shield, it appears to be cast iron. Doesn't sound too bad at all.

The muffler on my 3110 is cast iron. I took it off put it in the glass bead maching. instead of rust. It now has a nice paint job

My muffler and exhaust sound aren't bad. I can muzzle the exhaust pretty quiet with a gloved hand. But I must have the clankiest Yanmar twin ever made. Every stroke is like a sledge on an anvil.

I would pay money to tame that racket if I knew what would do it. It is painful to operate for even a minute without hearing protection. The only comparison I've seen in person (there aren't many Yanmars around here) was a 'reconditioned' YM2000 at a VN importer. Theirs sounded a lot more civilized than mine.

Power Service cetane improver (gray bottle) helps tone it down, but I shouldn't have to add that to good quality fuel.

I think it is the extreme sharpness of the fuel knock (as well as the loudness) that makes it feel like it will damage hearing.
